Good morning! Today we are delighted to share something a little bit out of the ordinary from Lima Conlon Photography. On your wedding day lots of couples choose to have their official wedding portraits taken in a stunning location somewhere near-by to their ceremony or reception location, or maybe at the venue itself. Not Jennifer and Bryan! Married in Miramichi, New Brunswick in Canada they decided to have their photos taken on the streets of Dublin! Yes, on an entirely different continent, we love their free spirited style, read on to hear all about their unusual wedding plans.
Jennifer and Bryan are both teachers from Miramichi in Canada. They first met at a house warming party for Jennifer’s brother, struck up a conversation and the rest is history!
“I knew things were meant to be when we were relaxing at his family cottage when we began dating (the future location of our wedding) and sipping wine by the river. All we did was laugh – nobody makes me laugh like he does. As months went by, we would look back on that night at the cottage as the moment we both knew it was the real thing!” explained Jennifer.
As their relationship progressed talk turned to being married, although an actual proposal never really happened.
“We actually didn’t have a proposal! We had a vacation planned in October of 2014 to Dublin. By the time January came, it had become obvious that Bryan planned to propose, as this was my trip of a lifetime! Instead of going with the flow, we came up with an idea. We decided to have a surprise wedding! We would get married secretly with only family attending, take off for Ireland the next day, and surprise all other friends and family with wedding photos! Upon our return, we would celebrate with a party and dance,” added Jennifer.
With six short months to plan everything Jennifer asked her mum for help;
“I have to give my mother all of the credit for this. She was amazing! We had a short 6 months to plan. We had the venue for the dance booked, band booked, appointments made and a decorator booked for the ceremony and the dance by the end of January. It all fell into place rather quickly with very few bumps in the road. But, without my mother, I’m not sure how it would have come together. I had an idea of everything I wanted after being to so many weddings, so we took ideas from here and there and made it our own!” explained Jennifer.
Faced with the idea of heading to Dublin to have their wedding photos taken the couple were keen to find the perfect photographer.
“One of the bigger decisions was booking the photographer in Dublin! I took to Facebook and searched “Dublin Photographer” and began searching pages. When I found Lima-Conlon Photography, I was sold! They were the most creative, original, beautiful photos I had ever seen, and luckily they were available to capture our wedding photos for us. It was a dream come true! We were worried about transporting our wedding attire, but Bryan packed his in his carry-on and I rolled my dress up in the bag it came in and brought it as my carry-on. When I say everything went smoothly, it really did!” added Jennifer.
“The day was flawless! Since it was only family attending, my sister, mother, sister in law and I got our hair and makeup done together, took some photos at my mother’s house, and off to the ceremony! It was a laid back atmosphere upon arrival. I walked down the aisle to T.V Carpio’s rendition of “I want to hold your hand” by The Beatles and carried a bouquet of wildflowers and lilies.
The day that our wedding photos were taken was amazing. I had my hair and makeup done at Cowboys and Angels. We had so much fun travelling through the streets and alleys of Dublin in our wedding attire, many people stopping to cheer or congratulate us. There were even people taking photos of us with their own cameras. Being a couple that are not scared to be the centre of attention, this day was so much fun! Gareth and Lidi were so amazing and knew exactly what we wanted to keep the originality of our wedding. The photos truly reflect who we are in the most creative way possible. We had a blast with our wedding photo shoot and we could not have asked for 2 better people to capture us!” said Jennifer.
My advice has been the same since the day we decided to get married this way – DO WHAT YOU WANT. Don’t try to please anyone else. You only get one day, this is your day as a couple to show your friends and family who you are and what you value. For us, we value each other, love, and family. So that’s what our day was about!
Many thanks to Lima Conlon Photography for sharing this unique and fun-filled wedding with us!
