We have the most beautiful wedding day to share with you all today. Not only was it in the glorious Dordogne region of France, but the couple, Emma and Mark, have a pretty special story. We’re delighted to share their love on Mrs2be.ie today, thanks to Johnny Corcoran Photography for the divine images.
“In 2004, both 16 years old, we each decided to participate in a school exchange between Dublin and Bergerac. We saw each other for the first time at the arrivals hall of Dublin airport as we were matched up with our partners, and the story began. It turns out a long distance relationship at 16 years old isn’t easy, but we stayed in contact throughout the years. Mark came to visit me in Paris in 2011 with two friends who had taken part in the school exchange (who ended up being best man and bridesmaid), and it went so well that he moved over shortly afterwards; we’ve been together since,” explained Emma.
The couple got engaged in Central Park in New York in 2016.
“The proposal happened during a trip to New York in October 2016. Mark waited for our day in central park, rented a rowing boat and managed to find a little bit of private space on the lake. After a declaration of love, he said he had a question to ask, and I started crying immediately. He got down on one knee on the boat… and proposed in English to make sure he didn’t make a mistake in French. It’s difficult to find the right words to explain how I felt, but I was the happiest person in the world,” added Emma.
The aim for their wedding was to create a joyful and warm atmosphere for everybody to enjoy. They wanted a ‘champêtre’ feel to their day, which translates as country style, and they found exactly this in their venue, Chatêau de Marsalès. Incorporating DIY decor elements throughout created by the couple and their families added to the charm.
On her wedding day, Emma wore a bespoke gown by French designer, Edith Bréhat. “The dress was done by a Parisian stylist called Edith Bréhat. I knew straight away that I wanted a unique dress; one that nobody else could wear. I wished to have a low-cut dress with a split up the leg, the rest we created with Edith. I absolutely love my dress; it’s exactly the style in which I imagined myself,” said Emma.
Mark added a touch of Irish to the day with his tweed suit and paddy cap!
Emma and Mark’s wedding was magical from beginning to end – who fancies heading to a French Chateau to say I do?!
To top off their celebrations the couple enjoyed a nine week honeymoon travelling through Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and finishing up in the United Arab Emirates on their way back to Paris.
Emma & Mark’s Planning Advice
“The trickiest aspect of planning was living far from the venue; Paris is about 550km from Monpazier. So each time we made the trip down, we were busy; but it was great fun. Nothing stands out as being difficult; the whole process was really enjoyable and we started planning quite early so we could take decisions without too much stress. Our advice would be to listen to your own taste and wishes, and make the most of the build up and day itself.”
