Today’s wedding by Annie Kheffache Photography has all the ingredients for a perfect Irish Spring wedding; a relaxed elegant vibe, a truly radiant bride, luxurious food choices and a cake table to end all cake tables! We’re delighted to share Sophie and Stephen’s April wedding at Step House Hotel in Borris, County Carlow.
The couple met in DCU whilst they were completing their Masters back in 2011, before moving to China for four years where their relationship matured. During a visit home at Christmas 2014 Stephen proposed and the couples wedding planning journey began.
“I actually did a lot of planning from China, which was hard work so I did most of my research online. My mum was a huge help, I don’t think there would have been a wedding without her! I got lots of help and advice from friends, a couple of my friends had recently gotten married when I was planning and they were so helpful, I think I ran most things by them before making any decisions!” said Sophie.
“I found my gown in Eden Manor Bridal. It was simple but elegant and it was really comfortable and easy to wear, which was important to me, I wanted to be able to enjoy the day! My mum and aunt came with me and my aunt wouldn’t let me leave without the head piece, I’m glad she insisted, I think it definitely added a little something extra. My florist made me the most beautiful hair piece with fresh flowers that I changed to after the ceremony for a more relaxed look,” said Sophie.
“A very special part for me was the music, my Dad is an amazing musician and he planned all the music for the ceremony, I didn’t know anything about it as I wanted it to be a surprise. He did an amazing job and sang ‘Moon River’ for me, one of my favourite songs that he sings so beautifully – I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place! The music in the church was all done by members of my family, which was just so special. A friend of my Mum’s is an amazing piper and he played ‘Highland Cathedral’ on the bagpipes as we left the church which was just fantastic. The fact that friends and family were so involved in the ceremony made it really special.”
“Our guests having a great day was most important to me, so I wanted to make sure they were looked after throughout the day. We spent the most on food and drinks for our guests. I’m big into food so it was really important to me that the meal would be really good, that’s why we chose the Step House. The food was incredible, people are still talking about it! The wonderful Mag About Cake really made my vision come true with our cake table, I wanted something a bit more fun and simple, she did such a fantastic job, and they tasted as good as they looked!” added Sophie.
“Our wedding day was one of the best, most fun and emotional days of my life. We kept it small and just wanted to make sure that ourselves and our guests were able to enjoy the day. It was a fantastic day, from the beautiful, personal ceremony (music played wonderfully by Sophie’s Dad) to my wife dancing all night in the most natural, carefree and gorgeous way. The image of her twirling around laughing without a worry in the world is one I’ll never forget. It was perfect,” said Stephen.
