An amazingly talented and generous group of friends and family made their wedding so personal, and allowed them to work within their tight budget.
After seven years together and two beautiful children, Marion and Paul decided 2012 was the year they would celebrate what they have together with their closest friends and family. Their wedding was held at Lisloughrey Lodge, Cong, County Mayo. The day was captured by Jenny Martin Photography.
Paul and I met in NUIG where we were both students and in the same class. We pretty much became inseparable after our first date and moved in together within a few months. Celebrating the luck we had to find each other and our happiness together was really what our wedding meant to us.
The couple held both their ceremony and reception at the stunning Lisloughrey Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo.
The location is stunning, the food was incredible, the rooms are interesting and beautiful, but what stands out so much is the attitude of the staff. I had so many people comment on how helpful and warm they were, and they all went above and beyond to make people feel welcome and happy. They really were outstanding.
Marion’s wedding gown was a gift from a very good friend and his wife. They kindly took a very blurry image of a gown she had fell in love with to Thailand, where they had it made specifically for her. The couple chose the lace and silk themselves, making the gown very special and personal to Marion. Luckily Marion had chosen purple as her accent colour as it was the only bridesmaid dress she could find to suit her pregnant bridesmaid!
The couple where on a pretty tight budget and asked friends and family to help them make their wedding day truly unforgettable. As well as her gifted wedding dress, Marion was given shoes and earrings as a gift, and her very talented sister in law made the stunning table arrangements, as well as singing Video Games’ by Lana del Ray during the ceremony.
The day was filled with music and entertainment from many members of both families. Marion’s dad sang her down the aisle to The Voyage,’ her daughter and niece played the cello and fiddle and her uncle and brother also played music. Other talented friends of the couple also performed a puppet show and two bands entertained throughout the day!
Having all our friends and family help so much with the wedding made the day so personal to us. One friend made truffles and bunting for the trees outside, and another brought me for a manicure and pedicure the day before. Another compiled a video diary of all the special people far and near who couldn’t make it to the wedding, which was an amazing gift on the day.
My sister and her partner made a beautiful arch that we got married under, while my aunt and uncle who live in Germany had us over to pick the fabulous wines, and then transported them to Ireland for us. Our best man gave a hilarious speech, and I can’t even begin to thank everyone for all the babysitting. Both our families were very generous. It was unreal to get so much support.
Our photographer, Jenny was absolutely fabulous and I think, much more organised for our wedding day than I was! She had the day timed perfectly and the photos are absolutely stunning!
