Ah, the Infant of Prague! If you’re Irish, we’d bet our lives that your mam will be sitting one of these on a window sill the night before your wedding!

Liane and Senan met in a psychiatric unit when they were both student nurses. Liane was on a six week placement, while Senan was doing his psychiatry training. Despite their first meeting, it took a further 18 months for their first date to materialise!

In November 2010 the couple headed to Cuba on holiday:

“On our first day in Havana we went exploring the city and stopped for a refreshment in a local bar. A jazz band started playing, so it felt only right to have a few mojitos. Needless to say, I needed a nap before going for dinner that night and when I woke Senan was kneeling at the edge of the bed, where he proposed. My excitement was short lived because unbeknownst to us the extreme weather had taken hold at home. We had decided not to announce the engagement until we had picked a ring, so when we got home the bad weather delayed announcing our great news by five weeks. I was fit to burst, but on the positive side it became a Christmas engagement, which lead to great celebrations as loads of family and friends were around,” explains Liane.

With the engagement finally announced, Liane and Senan decided to wait a year to save before making any wedding plans, although they did book their dream wedding venue, Mount Juliet.

“After the venue, my priority was the dress and the photographer, and for Senan it was to have great music to ensure our guests would have a great time. The ‘White’ line by Vera Wang came out in spring 2011 and we were going to the States for a wedding in the summer, so I made an appointment and purchased the dress there and then. I was in love! At this point we had no official date set, so I was a bit of a Muriel!” adds Liane.

In time they did secure a date (March 15th, 2013) and chose a beautiful spring theme. Using vibrant spring colours including blue, yellow, green and white, Liane really wanted her wedding flowers to look as if they had just been picked from the garden – a job her friend Dara achieved perfectly!

“The day could not have gone any better – it was perfect from start to finish. The only dilemma was the Sunday before the wedding when I went to Mass to meet the sacristan and the altar had been dug out – there was a digger in the middle of the church with loads of rubble! They had plywood erected in front of the building site and a makeshift altar in front of that! They wanted us to cover the plywood with a Kilkenny and Tipperary flag. I wasn’t keen on that idea, obviously! So there followed a stressful few hours trying to move church. We got it sorted in the end and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Folkstown church was beautiful and just intimate enough for our number of guests,” explains Liane.

“Walking down the aisle as husband and wife was a highlight for both of us,” adds Liane. “The speeches were also a high point, but very emotional. There was a five minute period while all our guests were seated for dinner and we were waiting for our entrance and it was a lovely few minutes alone.”

Liane’s advice for other brides:

“Everyone says to relax and enjoy it and it’s so true as the day just flies by in the blink of an eye, but I think being as organised as you possibly can is the best way to be, so that if anything does go wrong it will hopefully be early enough to fix it. It also alleviates the stress closer to the day!”
