Not a week goes by that we don’t hear a bride-to-be talk about finding ‘The One’ and we’re talking about their dream wedding dress, not their fiancé! Today we’ve been having a look through the Real Wedding archives to see how our Missies discovered their wedding gowns, because we know, there’s a gown out there for everyone!
Ana
Brazilian Ana married her fiancé Stephen in a relaxed and budget friendly city centre wedding.
“My dress was a present from my amazing mother in law. We got it at The Bridal Shop in Phibsborough. I knew I wanted something simple but elegant, fitted to the body, comfortable and timeless. It was extremely hard to find something I liked to be honest, all the dresses were so big and full of information! Besides that, most shops wanted at least 8 months notice and I only had 5 so luckily the girls at The Bridal Shop sorted me out and it was a fantastic experience! It was the first dress I tried and I am still so in love with it, would love to wear it again!”

Lianne
Lianne married Martin at a fun and romantic celebration in the centre of Galway.
“I got my dress at de Stafford Bridal in Nenagh. Luckily I had my bridal party in tow to help me select the dress. We went to a few stores to get an idea of what I liked and before I knew it we had one chosen. I was particularly delighted to go with an Irish designer! This meant I could have dress fittings in Dublin as my dress was being made and so could easily make little changes as needed.”

Maggie
Maggie and Eamon chose Castle Durrow to tie the knot, they were surrounded by their closest family and friends and wed in true bohemian style.
“I wanted to have a very simple midi dress, so I chose to have it made. I wanted to have burgundy shoes, matching our theme colours. The wedding theme was autumn woodland in burgundy and navy colours so my dress and accessories were chosen to match.”

Sonya
Sonya’s New Years Eve wedding to Gavin was a glamorous and glitzy affair at Ballymascanlon House Hotel.
“I always liked two style of dresses, princess and straight slinky..... Although after deciding on a fairy tale wedding that was accompanied by horse & carriage it was no doubt in my mind that I needed to have a princess style dress. For dancing in the later hours I got my other choice which was the straight slinky dress. I designed the dress myself where the big tulle princess skirt and the off the shoulder straps could be detachable and I’d get the best of both worlds!"

Martha
Martha and John held a romantic summer garden party wedding at Coolbawn Quay.
“I chose my dress from an amazing selection in the White Room, Mullingar. It was the first shop I visited. I flew home from London for one day, and within half an hour I had chosen my dream dress. It was a lace and satin Mikaella wedding gown by Paloma Blanca, a Canadian brand. It had a jewel neckline on fit and flare gown, with lace inserts at waist, lace bodice back, Swarovski buttons and chapel train."

Aoife
Aoife and Robin added many Swedish elements into their Irish wedding at Huntington Castle.
“Well I hate shopping at the best of times, and as we were on a very tight budget I didn’t want to spend a massive amount on a dress that I would wear once for a few hours. So trying to find something within budget and that I could potentially alter and wear again was key for me. I actually didn’t really look at many places in Ireland. I went to London with my sister after Christmas and we tried on some really beautiful and very different styles of dresses, they have a great selection there. This was really good fun, but it also gave me a good idea of what suited me and what didn’t.
In April I still hadn’t found a dress and I think everyone else was a lot more stressed about it them me. My brother lives in Copenhagen and my sister in law took me dress shopping while I was over visiting and I found my dress there. I never thought I would wear a dress like that, even when I saw it in the shop I said it’s nice but I don’t think it would suit me…then I tried it on! It was so comfortable on, and very reasonably priced. When it arrived it was about a size too big for me so I brought it to a great tailor in Dublin who was recommended to me by a friend, and she altered it for me so quickly, and I was delighted with the results.”
