Moya and Hugh met through a mutual friend at a music festival, so it was only right that music and entertainment played a big part in their summer wedding. Thanks to Carol Sweeney Photography for sharing their beautiful Big Day with us!
“Fairly soon into the relationship, we knew it was right. We both just clicked and knew it was meant to be. Sounds cheesy I know, but that literally how it happened,” said Moya.
After a little hiccup with the ring, the couple got engaged in Donegal, where they used to live before relocating to Meath.
“ I had a big proposal planned but the ring (which was coming from New York) was VERY late arriving. I ended up proposing shortly after Christmas,” added Hugh.
Both Moya and Hugh had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted from their wedding day, ensuring it was relaxed and fun with music at the centre. They asked friends to perform at the ceremony, entertained their guests with a Ukulele group during the drinks reception, and had their favourite band, Gorilla Radio, perform during the reception.
“We were keen to spend the larger areas of our budget on the venue and entertainment and so decided to save on the dresses, flowers, cake and some of the stationery and decor. I used online retailer JJ House for my wedding dress. I had gotten a bridesmaid’s dress from there before for a friend’s wedding so knew the quality was pretty good. And I just knew when I saw the picture it was the dress I was picturing in my mind,” Moya explained.
Moya and Hugh chose a vibrant green colour scheme to complement the vintage look of Bellinter House.
Favourite Moment
“It’s hard to pick just one thing. We were so happy to have Gorilla Radio playing as we are huge fans of theirs but I think the overall highlight was just seeing everyone enjoying themselves on the day. Also I really enjoyed the magician as we had taken a chance as we hadn’t seen him perform before so we were just as surprised as the guest were by his magic!” said Moya.
Moya’s Advice
“Plan it together. Do it as a team. Be prepared to compromise. But most importantly, enjoy the build up. Don’t let the stress get to you because you’ll end up missing the fun of the build up.”
