Juanita and David first met in a local bar called The Porthouse in their hometown of Clonmel during the August Bank Holiday in 2008. They both knew pretty quickly the relationship was different from any other they had before and felt instantly very comfortable with each other, although it did take five years until they became engaged!

“David proposed in March 2013 in Glenshelane Woods outside Cappoquin. He had remembered that I had particularly fond memories of this place and in particular a beautiful wooden bridge over the river as I had a photo with myself and all my friends from school on this bridge. The proposal was completely unexpected, he totally blind sided me, and I still don’t know how he managed it as we tell each other everything!” said Juanita.

From the get go both Juanita and David knew they wanted a relaxed day that everyone would enjoy with great food and entertainment being very important. After considering a civil ceremony the couple visited Holycross Abbey, their local church and instantly fell in love with the look and feel of the hallowed venue. “We felt really blessed that it was available for our date,” added Juanita.

Juanita and David didn’t set a strict theme for their day but kept along the lines of relaxed romance. “We wanted to let people into our world for the day to experience our relationship and how relaxed and loved we feel in each other’s company,” said Juanita.

With a loose colour theme of navy and mint Juanita let her bridesmaid, her sister choose her own dress.

“As it turned out luck would have it and the first dress she stepped into happened to be the one we went with. It suited her down to the ground and it matched our relaxed colour scheme. We bought the dress in Shutterbug Kilkenny, it was by Australian designer Bariano,” she said.

David went for a relaxed look when it came to his wedding suit and was interested in picking up separates that he would wear again and that would be comfortable on the day and so the couple headed to Kildare Village to find the perfect outfit.

‘The day went off without a hitch. We really couldn’t have wished for a better day. The weather had been absolutely miserable all in the run up.. even on the morning of the wedding, but when we arrived at the church the sun appeared and shone down on us for the rest of the day… we swear that all those belonging to us up in heaven were rooting for us. From start to finish it just was a beautiful experience. Both myself and David have said that if we could re-live one day.. that would be it… and this time we’d press pause on the crucial moments.. as it really is true what they say the day goes really fast,” said Juanita.

“Apart from the ceremony and how special it was, I think we would both agree that the band (The Papa Zitas) were the absolute highlight. Everything from learning our first dance song to absolutely rocking it out from start to finish they were sensational.. people are still talking about them saying they were the best wedding band they had ever seen. We certainly didn’t get off the floor for the whole set and were actually too tired to dance when the DJ came on,” she added.
