We’ve had the weirdest, scariest and craziest couple of weeks, haven’t we? If you are a couple due to be married soon there is no doubt you will be concerned and confused over the best course of action to take. We’ve been listening to your worries and questions and hopefully today we’re able to give you guidance on postponing your day. Of course the governments recommendation of no indoor social gatherings of more than 100 people until 29th March (subject to change) means weddings right now are not happening. Hotels and venues are closed but the good news is they are working, safely, to keep you informed and help rearrange your wedding day.
Postpone or cancel?
If you were due to be married between now and the end of May your venue should have been in touch to talk to you about postponing or cancelling your wedding. Postponing will mean moving the date by a few months but still intending to get married, whilst cancelling obviously means calling the wedding off, until times are more certain.
Deciding to cancel your wedding is obviously a huge decision and one we would not recommend rushing in to! Speak to your suppliers, if you need more time to work out your options ask them for this, but remember dates later in the year will book up quickly once we are out the other side.
How do I postpone?
If your invites have went out it’s time to get on the phone and call your guests. You could formally inform them via post but if time is limited a phone call is the quickest course of action.
After your guests are made aware it’s time to start wedding planning again. Call or email each of your suppliers and let them know you are postponing and begin talks for another date. Your venue will be the biggie, ask for a number of possible alternative dates as this will give you greatest scope with the rest of your suppliers being available. It will take a lot of work and backwards and forwards discussions but hopefully you will find a suitable date for everyone. It’s good to note weekday dates may work out easiest for you to continue with your dream supplier team.
What about our deposits?
We have no doubt that our Irish wedding suppliers will do their best by you. Chat to them, they will have their own individual procedures but from what we’ve been seeing on social media, most are offering to move your deposit to your new date.
Wedding Insurance
If you have wedding insurance talk to your company about what they can do for you. Obviously each company has different policies and cover.
When you’ve successfully got your day moved it’s time to sit back, relax and not panic about it. Your Big Day will come along and all this extra wedding planning will be a distant memory.
