Oh, We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside! Sinéad and Bryn’s Brooklodge Wedding

Inspiration

Brighton and Hove was the port of call for Sinead and Bryn, as they themed their Brooklodge wedding around the popular English seaside resort.

Sinead & Bryn's Seaside Themed Wedding

With an inter-church ceremony and their own seagull wedding ‘logo,’ this couple’s wedding was certainly a memorable one for both couple and guests. Married in St Patrick’s Church, Enniskerry, the day was perfectly captured by Julie Cummins Photography.

After jumping ship from Dublin to Hove, Sinéad first met her future husband at a pub quiz in August 2010. Bryn had also recently made the move to the seaside town from his native Birmingham and says he knew from their first meeting that Sinéad was “the one.” Awwwww.

18 months later, Sinead had no idea Bryn was about to pop the question …

“Bryn suggested we go for a walk along the seafront on a cold, crisp, sunny evening in February 2012, and not unusual for us, led me on to the historic Brighton bandstand. Suddenly, he was down on one knee, ring in hand! We decided to keep our engagement secret for two weeks so we could visit both our families and tell them in person. I had to make sure I took my ring off every time I rang my parents using Skype!”

The couple adopted a team effort approach to their wedding planning, benefiting from each other’s strengths to make the day a total fun and love filled success.

“We figured no Brighton and Hove wedding would happen without the seagulls making their presence felt, so we had seagull pins on the bridal party button holes, seagulls in the cake topper I made and a seagull table cloth for the cake table. We made post cards of our favourite places in Brighton and Hove for our table plan, and each postcard featured our wedding ‘logo’ which was a seagull with our initials.”

Sinead carried a vibrant bouquet of gerberas and calla lilies that she created herself.

“The flowers weren’t the most important thing to us so they were minimal in the church. We did the bouquets and buttonholes ourselves but splurged on the ceremony music, as that was very important to us.” With a bouquet as vibrant as Sinead’s we reckon a minimalist approach is très chic. Our Highlights

Sinéad: “I’ve never felt emotions like I did walking up the aisle, but I was instantly at ease once I was at Bryn’s side. Having our photos taken in Acton’s pub, Macreddin Village was a lot of fun. Our amazing photographer, Julie, captured us just being ourselves.”

Bryn: “My first glimpse of Sinéad poking her head around the bridesmaids as they walked up the aisle was definitely my highlight.”

Advice for other couples

  • “Work out who you are as a couple and bring that to the day and how you plan it.”
  • “Stop and think before you spend on the fillers. If we saw some quirky artwork that we liked, Bryn would look at it and say ‘sure I can do that,’ which is exactly what he did with our map frame of hearts of where we came from and where we live. Since we already had the frame it cost us nothing!”
  • “Do a joined speech! We stood up together for our speech and took turns thanking people. Several married guests liked this approach and wished that they had stood at each other’s side while they did their speech.”
