Rosie & Jam’s Intimate Family Wedding

Six months after meeting during a university kayaking trip in Kerry, Rosie and James started dating. Ten years later they were married on a beautiful summers day in Ballymagarvey Village, Balrath, Co. Meath.

The fun and excitement of the day was perfectly captured by Iwona and Greg from IG Studio Photography, Dublin.

Jam proposed in January 2010 whilst we were living in Slovakia. We went on a hike in the snow and Jam proposed at a beautiful lookout spot, though we couldn’t see anything as it was so misty! He’d stashed a bottle of champagne and two glasses in the bag. He then whisked us off to a hotel for the night and also organised for us to have the hotel spa to ourselves.

The couple had a year and a half to plan their special day and Rosie admits it took all the time they had!

We did the big things first, like the venue and the dress, but the real work started about two months before the wedding. There were lots of little things that needed sorting and whilst we did the bulk of the work together we also had help from my bridesmaid Claire (Jam’s sister) and their mom, Irene. Both our dads were also very helpful, as well as a friend of ours, Ciaran Maguire, who helped with lots!

Their wedding was an intimate gathering of the friends and family, with a total of 47 guests. Guests were invited through ourwedvite.com, using graphics from etsy.com.

It was great to have the whole family there to celebrate with us and to catch up with people we hadn’t seen. My dad, Frank tried to run me up the aisle before my bridesmaid as he’s always in a hurry!’

The overall colour scheme for the day was kept simple with the accent colour being pink from the gerberas. The ceremony was decorated with Ikea containers teaming with the stunning pink, purple and white flowers created by theflowerfactory.ie.

Rosie and Jam exchanged bespoke handmade wedding bands by Beth Cyr. Following the ceremony guests were treated to an amazing four course meal which included wild boar sausages, braised lamb and eton mess.

The day was perfect with no disasters! We would really encourage couples to do as much as they can in advance!  Don’t tell yourself it’s too early’, it’s great to have it all done so that you can be as relaxed as possible in the days leading up to it. Focus on the things that are important to you and forget about everything else. Also keep an eye on Groupon for any vouchers as it can really help with costs.
