Siobhan & John’s Hamlet Court Wedding

Real Weddings

Siobhan and John share their beautiful wedding with us, captured by Kevin Morris Photography.

How we met

Where and when:

John and I went to secondary school together but we did not know each other well. We met on St Stephen’s night at our local disco. John spun me round the floor as Fairytale of New York was blasting from the speakers – little did we know that our own fairytale was just beginning!

First date:

Because John and I met on St Stephen’s night and the way Christmas fell that year we met on numerous nights over the Christmas season. Our first official date was in Dublin. John and I were both in college there at the time. John met me off the bus and we went for drinks in a bar on Capel Street.

The Proposal

John brought me to our favourite place to walk in Dublin, Portmarnock beach on a very cold and windy day in October. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I said yes straight away, then we ran back to our car to escape the cold and to ring all our family and friends!

The Big Day

What we were thinking:

Siobhan: Everyone who called to my parent’s house on the morning of the wedding commented how calm and serene it was.  I felt very calm and relaxed until I put on my wedding dress. All of a sudden the nerves set in!!
John: I was so excited that our wedding day was finally here!  I was really looking forward to seeing Siobhan!

Before I walked down the aisle, I:

I started to cry but managed to compose myself halfway down the aisle. Once I stood beside John and held his hand all my nervousness slipped away.

When we first saw each other:

We smiled and shared a little kiss.

Our music:

Processional – Canon in D
Signing the registry “Perhaps Love”, “Somewhere over the Rainbow”
Recessional Bridal March
First dance “At last”,  Etta James

Funniest moment:
The men at our wedding really gave it socks at the dancing-it was so funny watching young and old doing air guitar, Russian dancing and very lively jigs around the dance floor!

Most emotional moment:
Definitely our wedding ceremony was the most emotional for us both.

Most surprising moment:
Our hotel was absolutely amazing. At every course of our meal,  the staff served the food to the top table with a trumpets fanfare playing signalling the arrival of our dinner; then for dessert all the lights were turned out and our dessert was delivered with small fireworks to the top table- it was spectacular!

Most magical moment:
Looking around the banquet room at all our friends and family laughing, clinking glasses and enjoying their food. It was very special.
