Sinéad and Johnathan officially met at work but it wasn’t until a night out in Biddy Early’s in Kilkenny that sparks began to fly! We’re delighted to share their elegant, laugh a minute September wedding with you today, with photography by Katie Kav Photography.
“The proposal took forever! We’d discussed getting engaged and had picked out the ring, but John said he wanted to surprise me. This all happened in September cue two months of waiting, many weekends away and lots of money spent on getting the nails did, two weeks before Christmas he arranged for our future bridesmaid, Joanne to bring me shopping for the day. None the wiser off we went and when I got home that evening, I walked in with Jonathan on one knee with the sitting room filled with roses and candles and Ed Sheeran’s Perfect playing in the background. I said yes, and we headed out for a night out to celebrate, course it was also the one weekend I hadn’t gotten the nails done!” explained Sinéad.
The couple didn’t want to feel stressed during their wedding plans so gave themselves plenty of time to plan and save – three years to be exact.
“We were able to take our time to decide on a venue and date. Due to the time we were able to get a lot of the suppliers we really wanted which helped to make our day so much easier- Katie our photographer, Marina in Confession Box and Richard Spicer our humanist celebrant, were all well voiced in weddings. They each offered invaluable advice and guidance and made our day so much more memorable and stress free,” added Sinéad.
With a simple and elegant look for their day, both Sinéad and Jonathan wanted to include sunflowers to ensure there was lots of sunshine brought to the day. These were incorporated into the table decorations, hotel décor, bouquets and even the cake.
Sinéad’s stunning ballgown wedding dress was purchased from Sabella Bridal in Waterford.
“The girls were fantastic! I got a cancellation for the day and to say I was apprehensive was an understatement. I had just had my little girl and had already tried on dresses in other shops and nothing seemed be quite right yet. Liz in Sabella let me pick out a few dresses myself first and the first dress I tried on turned out to be my wedding dress. I saw the dress and loved it when I tried it on, I knew it was the one, I went out and saw the look on the look on my bridesmaid’s Joanne’s face and she said wow. I was completely sold when Liz pointed out that it had pockets!” explained Sinéad.
Our Highlight of the Day
“I think when we started planning we wanted to get married but we wanted everyone to celebrate with us and I suppose eat, drink and be merry. At one point in the evening while Susie Q had the dance floor absolutely rocking, it was pretty obvious we were happy, our family and friends were certainly merry and enjoying themselves and it made all the planning worthwhile and we’d achieved what we’d set out to do.”
“Give yourselves time and decide on the things that will make or break your day and focus on these. Things will go wrong – it may rain , people may not turn up, take it in your stride and enjoy your day, most people will only get one opportunity to marry the person they love – make the most of it and make sure you surround yourselves with people that bring endless laughter to your day, we didn’t stop smiling and laughing all day!”
