Laura and David have the sweetest proposal story we’ve ever heard which involved an airline ticket! Today we’re delighted to share it along with their beautiful September wedding which was captured by Suzanne and Emily from Circus Photography.
Laura and Dave met in 2009 whilst they were working in the same call centre whilst studying at college. After 12 months of being apart due to Dave’s work Laura knew if they got through it they could get through anything and last Christmas Eve Dave sealed the deal with a beautiful proposal.
“After work on Christmas Eve I returned home and Dave was after making homemade soup and brown bread, (as I was a little under the weather). He said he had something to cheer me up – I opened a lovely gift and card from my friends who lived in Canada at the time, this didn’t cheer me up, I was a sobbing mess as with the time of year I was missing them!! He gave me another card (Dave does NOT do cards) inside was an airline ticket to go visit my friends in Canada, I then realised the voucher was made out to LAURA HENNESSY. I questioned this and Dave told me to turn the ticket around…. on the back it said “will you marry me?” I of course said yes after prompting him politely to get down on one knee first,” explained Laura.
“When it came to planning our wedding we had a fair idea about what we wanted and knew that we wanted to go away within Ireland. We focused on finding our dream venue which we wanted to be by the water as it means a lot to the both of us as we come from families that love water and boats. AnnaCarriga was actually the only wedding venue we viewed. We visited it on a cold and miserable day in January 2017 and it was still beautiful so we knew then and there that even if we got bad weather it would still be amazing to be inside looking out on the beautiful surroundings while being inside with our amazing friends and family,” added Laura.
Laura didn’t set out with a theme in mind instead she chose details she loved that happened to have a loose rustic feel. Her simple sweetheart gown from Lilac Rose in Limerick was teamed with a beautiful hydrangea and eucalyptus bouquet which reflected the elegant rustic feel of the day. Her four bridesmaids wore dusky pink dresses from Monsoon.
“The day was amazing, from start to finish we had the best vendors, everyone was so helpful and kind. From our photographers helping with flowers and the boy’s ties they really fitted in and had fun with all our friends and family, I found them very helpful with timing and ensuring everything went to plan,” said Laura.
Laura’s Highlight
My cousin Niamh Kirby is an amazing singer and has appeared on TV shows before. She sang for the church and to me this was definitely one of my highlights. I handpicked each and every song so that it meant something to me and Dave. She sang ‘You Got A Friend In Me” as I walked up the aisle (Toy Story is Dave’s favourite film). We also included songs like “Show Me Heaven” and “Stand By Me” as they were the number one’s the day Dave and I were born. This made the church so personal to us both. I loved the ceremony, Fr. John Jones was our priest and he was a gentleman, he made Dave and I so relaxed and at ease throughout the mass.
Dave’s Highlight
Lots of personal highlights but one that stands out for me was after the church ceremony our guests made their way to the reception venue while myself, Laura and the bridal party made a detour to Killaloe Harbour where we had hired a boat (Spirit of Killaloe) to bring to us to the venue. Not only was it great fun but it also allowed us to catch up with our family before the rest of the celebrations ensued. One of our main reasons for picking AnnaCarriga Killaloe as our venue was due to its proximity to the water and outdoors, so to have been able to arrive in such fashion was a great experience.
