Tankardstown House in Slane, Co. Meath was host to Sarah and Sean’s beautifully inspired floral and candlelight wedding. The couple chose Julie Cummins to document their day. Their love of travel, and time spent living in Australia also influenced some special touches throughout the day.
After meeting in a nightclub in Rathmines through mutual friends, it was whilst living in Australia seven years on that Sean set the ball in motion for their eventual engagement;
“The proposal happened on the 11th March 2012. Myself and Sean were living in Australia at the time and my parents had visited us the Christmas before and Sean asked my dad’s permission then. My Dad couldn’t keep a secret so he told my Mom who told my sisters and brother! They were all in on the secret for three months, as Sean wanted to wait until we were home in March for his cousin’s wedding so we could celebrate our engagement with all our family and friends!” Sarah explained.
Their wedding date was soon booked and planning was in full swing with Sarah using online sites, including Mrs2Be and Pinterest to gather inspiration for the day.
“I didn’t have one overall theme chosen but I knew I wanted a really romantic day with lots of candlelight and amazing flowers. I worked closely with Joys Flowers who made our amazing bouqets and all the church and reception flowers – very talented ladies! We have also done a lot of travelling so our table plan was a map of the world with luggage tags pinned to each destination we have been to and then on each of the tables was a photo of us at that destination.” added Sarah.
Sarah wore an incredible Monique Lhulllier gown from The Suite, after dragging her mum and sister to various bridal boutiques across the country, she instantly knew the dreamy gown was the one. She teamed the pretty gown with a stunning Jules Bridal Jewellery headpiece, which we love!!
“Our wedding day was the best day of our lives! We had such a fantastic day. We stayed the night before in Tankardstown so I got ready with my bridesmaids and Mom in the bridal suite that morning. It was very relaxing as hair and makeup came to us and all we had to do was get pampered. Our fantastic photographer, Julie Cummins was also there to capture these special moments of us getting ready together and she put us all at ease. From the lovely and personal church ceremony presided by my uncle who is a Dominican priest, to the great music throughout the day, to our fabulous meal in the Orangery in Tankardstown, to dancing the night away to the Camembert Quartet – we couldn’t have asked for a better day!” said Sarah.
The day did have one slight (good luck!) mishap however;
“When Sean was leaving his cottage on the morning of the wedding in his suit to come up to the main house he got pooped on by a bird all over his suit jacket!! He got up to the main house where the staff immediately cleaned him up and he was inspected thoroughly by my sisters!! Needless to say they did not tell me any of this until after the ceremony! But you know what they say…. it’s good luck!” explained Sarah.
