A Perfect Pastel Celebration at The Brehon by Emily Doran Photography

Real Weddings

For our second real wedding of the week we’ve headed to the elegant surroundings of The Brehon in Killarney. Our couple, Sarah and Fergal, are software developers who met in Boston when they worked for the same company. Their September wedding was captured by the ever-fabulous Emily Doran – big thanks for sharing this beautiful love story!

After four years of living and working in Boston, Sarah and Fergal decided to make the move home to Harold’s Cross to be closer to their families. Here, the couple got engaged with Fergal planning a surprise romantic proposal on an unexpected Tuesday in December, followed by a weekend away in Brussels.

“After seeing a few hotels, we fell in love with the lobby of The Brehon in Killarney. The exposed redbrick and the area where everyone can look down as your enter the hotel looked gorgeous. Once we met Kelly Ann, we knew we were in good hands. We also looked at some churches and fell in love with St Mary’s in Beaufort. It is such an intimate church in a beautiful setting by the mountains. When we spoke to Fr Donal for the first time, he was lovely. Once we had a date, it was a shock to realise that we were getting married in just nine months,” said Sarah.

How sweet are the outdoor church decorations? All created by Sarah’s talented mum!

“My strongest memory was of the day is when I met Ferg at the top of the aisle. He had been really nervous running up to the day and the first thing he said to me was “I’m not nervous anymore”. It was great to see him so relaxed. The church was lovely, walking up the aisle seeing our friends that had travelled to see us. Appreciating the flowers that we had chosen, recognising the music we picked and the readings – it was all perfect,” said Sarah.

The couple were keen to keep their Big Day relaxed and fun with a pretty pastel colour scheme of peach and mint. Sarah was keen to add DIY elements to the occasion and after a work trip back to Boston she had the chance to go shopping in her favourite craft store, Michael’s, and returned home with lots of burlap, twine, wine corks and mason jars.

“Our wedding was super relaxed and lots of fun. We were surrounded by the people we love the most -120 friends and family with lots of people travelling from overseas to make the day extra special. Fr O’Connor did his most to put us at ease during the ceremony and the church in Beaufort was very intimate. The sun shone which meant the photos at Ross Castle were lots of fun. The Brehon was an incredible place for the reception with Kelly Ann and the staff doing everything to make sure the day was perfect. The band kept everyone dancing and neither bride nor groom left the dance floor for the night,” said Sarah. “We had put a Polaroid camera station out near the dance floor and absolutely loved that so many of the guests used it. It was great fun to look through them the day after and brings back so many memories of our perfect day.”
