Hello you lovely lot! Today we are delighted to share the wedding of two best friends, Susan and Brian. Shot by the ever so talented Paul Kelly at Studio 3, Susan’s career as a visual merchandiser is so clear to see in all the pretty touches she added throughout her September wedding. Come look, it’s a goodie.

After meeting in June 2001 at a local disco in Wexford, Susan and Brian knew pretty quickly their love was sure to last. Wisely they let their friendship and relationship develop organically and after moving in together in March 2011, Brian popped the big question.

“That November we were hanging wallpaper, I must have impressed Brian with my wallpaper skills because while up the ladder he popped the question! It was a fantastic funny moment and I was thrilled as I never was into grand proposals, its just not us!! We only brought the house so we needed time to save so the date was set for 11th Sept 2014 which was the day before my mam and dads 43rd wedding anniversary and we chose the same church and venue as them also which was very special in itself!” explained Susan.

To begin her wedding research Susan scanned websites and magazines for ideas in the hope of finding the feel she wanted.

“I  always wanted the wedding to be elegant and stylish with our own unique touches. I  got a notebook and jotted down little ideas as they popped into my head. Many of the ideas I thought were amazing at first but didn’t make it in the end! The result was a relaxed stylish fun day with exactly what myself and Brian wanted down to ‘You Got The Love’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’ being sang at the church!” added Susan.

After an extensive search of numerous bridal boutiques, Susan couldn’t find the dress for her and decided to take a break from dress shopping and enjoy a weekend in Liverpool. It was during that weekend by total chance that she spotted a dress in John Lewis.

“I tried it on and the rest is history, it was me, it was fun and it felt right. I got the cape or ‘wings’ as my bridesmaid Sarah called them handmade and they were detachable too. They were inspired by the shape of my beautiful hair chain made for me by the wonderful Jules at Jules bridal jewellery, Blackrock. The dress I believe chose me and fitted nicely into my carry on home on the plane…which everyone had a great laugh about!! No giant dress bag for me!” said Susan.

To keep with the personal and bespoke tone of the day Susan and Brian went for a gold and purple colour scheme and added little touches of stars throughout the day, an homage to the star tattoos on their wrists.

“Walking down the aisle as husband and wife was a very special moment and seeing friends and family that we haven’t seen in some time! Of course there were a few slight mishaps, my brother drove us to the ceremony and not being used to driving the car took off like a rocket! I ended up with a lap full of champagne whilst my bridesmaid, Sarah was crazily dancing to Dizzie Rascal’s, Bonkers!” added Susan.

Susan’s Advice for other couples

On the morning of the wedding surround yourself with a small group of people on a needs and must basis – too many people add stress. Don’t forget to eat breakfast and choose a photographer that suits your style and makes you feel comfortable as you spend a lot of time with them! Relax and take it all in because it’s your day to shine and believe me you WILL want to do it all over again!
