Newly Engaged? Here’s What To Do First!

Planning & Advice

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the world of wedding planning! Since you’re newly engaged, you’re probably wondering “Where the heck do I start?”. Planning a wedding involves lots of tasks and making lots of important decisions. Knowing what to do and when to do it can be a little confusing and overwhelming. So if you’re newly engaged, we’re breaking it down for you so you know what to do first!

Announce your news

Seems obvious, but it’s a great place to start! Phone your parents, text your besties and get your Instagram announcement ready.

Note: You can do this when you’re ready. The announcement doesn’t have to be made right after the engagement is official. Take your time and tell everyone when you’re ready.

Expert tip: Make sure your parents, besties and inner circle know before you go public. It’s the best way to make sure you don’t unintentionally offend somebody who’s very close to you!

Don’t rush into the planning

Before rushing into the planning, take a moment to just enjoy being engaged. Go on a few days, spend time celebrating and just take it all in. If you’re up for it, host an engagement party or even go on a little weekend away with your Other Half to enjoy some one-on-one time together.

If you are having a shorter engagement, you may feel like delaying the process isn’t an option for you. That’s ok too! Do what feels right for you and your Other Half.

Get organised

Once you’re ready to start planning, your best first step is to get organised. Determine what type of wedding you want to have and make a list of your prioritise (for example: you may really want a sit down, four course meal, but you don’t mind what type of entertainment you have).
