Planning A Destination Wedding – Our Top Tips

Destination Weddings, Planning & Advice
destination wedding

The lure of a sun-drenched wedding ceremony is very appealing to lots of Irish couples, and who can blame them! If you’ve been thinking of jumping on a plane to say your I Do’s todays post will help you get an overview of what is involved when planning a destination wedding.

Choose a location

One of your first ports of call should be our Destination Weddings. Here you’ll find gorgeous couples who’ve gone before and an amazing range of suppliers and venues in various beautiful destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

You should keep in mind that the destinations you are considering are safe and have everything you will need. A charming little Spanish village might be appealing but would they have enough accommodation etc to cater for your group. Keep up to date with travel restrictions in the area of your preferred places. As well as accommodation options think about your older guests, or those who don’t love travelling. Will you need to take planes, trains and automobiles to get to your destination?! It’s best to make it easy for guests to ensure they are happy to travel.

Consider guest accommodation

Asking your guests to come to your wedding is exciting but bear in mind that it may not be accessible for all. Your sister with five kids mightn’t be able to stretch, your Gran might not be comfortable with leaving Ireland. Be as flexible as possible and ensure you are able to offer a range of accommodation prices at your chosen destination.

Hire the professionals

Unless you are fluent with the local lingo, and know the area well (most couples won’t!), do not try planning your wedding abroad without hiring the professionals. A wedding planner is the obvious choice – see our fab bunch here – they will help plan every aspect of your day from venue to photographer and flowers to cake. To make life a lot easier choosing local suppliers really will save you a lot of headaches!

Visit in advance if you can

Some couples like to visit their destination in advance of the day, if this is an option it really is a good idea. Meeting with your planning and running through everything such as visiting the venue and food and wine tasting will help you make informed choices.

Take out wedding insurance

Never have we been bigger advocates of wedding insurance than over the past 18 months!
