Couple: Martina and Sean

Wedding date: 2026-05-08

Wedding ceremony: Ceremony Sacred Heart Church, Carrickroe

Wedding reception: Cavan Crystal Hotel, Cavan

“Sean and I met 8 years ago Portstewart where he is from. I was studying pharmacy in Ulster University at the time and we were both in the local bar singing karaoke it was a Monday night before Christmas and the rest is history. It was very much the invisible string theory because we had been in circles of mutual friends but had never met. When we met it was the right time.”

Martina and Sean got engaged on a sunny May day in Spain at Colomares Castle.

“So many tourists came up and congratulated us in so many languages we couldn’t understand what anyone was saying but we just laughed, smiled and thanked them! It was beautiful and we sat in the grounds of the castle and chatted for a while and then rang family and friends to share our news,” explained Martina.

The couple were excited to plan their dream wedding day and wanted the day to represent love in every aspect. It was relaxed but still full of energy with a pretty in pink theme that added romance to the day.

“Our Ceremony was in the Sacred Heart Church Carrickroe in Monaghan. We had the extremely talented Lauren Mc Crory as our vocalist and I walked down the aisle to  “In a country Churchyard” as a gesture to my mum and dad as my mum also walked down the aisle to that song. We had bless the broken road during the signing of the register as a tribute to my husband for me finding my way to him. My brother read a beautiful reading with the words “wherever you go, I shall go” it’s a prayer of devotion and he read it directly to us that meant a lot.

The Ceremony was celebrated by our local priest Fr. Flanagan and it was so personal we both felt so content.”

Martina wore a beautiful mermaid style ivory dress with a long train and cathedral length veil trimmed in lace, her maids wore one shoulder pale pink dresses from Coast.

Sean wore a black velvet tuxedo jacket and suit designed by Daniel Grahame.

The couple travelled to Cavan Crystal Hotel in Cavan for their reception.

“We had looked at so many venues but we choose the Cavan Crystal Hotel. Our initial thoughts were wow. The hotel itself is so clean and well presented and that was so important to us because we wanted our guests to feel the same way we did when they came in on the wedding day.

We always knew the food and service was impeccable but the staff really sold it because they all came over and introduced themselves and it felt so personal compared to anywhere else. Our wedding coordinator was outstanding we clicked immediately with Jordan he is such a people person and it felt like we had our own personal wedding planner. He took care of so many things and every detail was looked after, he even created the sweet cart and crisp wall for us which was a bonus.

It’s lovely to have a hotel working as hard as you are to make the day so special, that you’re not just another wedding, your day is as important to them as it is to you.”

For entertainment, Martina and Sean had Mad Ass Mules and  DJ Darren;

“They really got the crowd going. We never left the floor we danced the entire night. Our guests loved the band and DJ and we could see that on the day. They catered to everyone. The craic we had on that dance floor we will laugh about it for years to come! It was wild!”

One fun element of the day was the Tayto battle;

“We had Northern Tayto and Southern Tayto crisps to see which was the ultimate Tayto. It ended in a draw.”

Martina’s favourite memory: The moment I turned the aisle and saw Sean standing there it felt like nobody else was there just us. Our whole relationship lead up to that moment and I felt so much happiness.

Sean’s favourite memory: The first dance, he felt so in the moment and like nobody else was in the room. We danced and sang to each other and none of it was choreographed just us being ourselves in the moment.

Joint favourite memories: Our combined favourite moments was the kids at our daughters school they all stood out with hand made signs and cheered as we went past it was very emotional.  The moment that we really cherished was when we were sitting at the top table and we were looking at all our guests. We got to watch everyone chatting and enjoying the day. It was surreal and a proud moment for us both and we felt so appreciative to everyone who came to celebrate with us.

Advice for other couples:

Our advice for other couples is to absorb the whole day and don’t get wrapped up in the stress. The wedding day is about the both of you and there is nothing to feel nervous about. You have both planned this day, you have both wanted this day. Remember to keep putting yourself back in the moment. All your guests have come to celebrate your love everyone is there for you.

The days leading up can evoke so many emotions of stress, nerves and excitement but let yourself feel all those emotions it’s all part of it and completely normal.  It will be the best day of your lives so enjoy it, not just the day itself but the days leading up to it and the days after it. You will be in a bubble, it’s the best feeling in the world and if something goes wrong on the day just let it go, regardless of all the planning the day is about you both becoming husband and wife and celebrating your love and at the heart of it all isn’t that what it’s all about.
