Aaaand… we have the results of the Wedding Olympics! After a delicious champagne breakfast, Radisson Blu named the top ten couples based on the thousands of votes. The eliminated couples did not leave empty handed. They all received dinner for 2 plus a bottle of house wine in Classiebawn Restaurant at the Radisson Blu Hotel Sligo.

Next, the competing couples faced interviews with the panel of judges: Alison McGilligan from VIP publications and Caroline Moore from WeddingsOnline.ie, and John Feerick editor of the Sligo Champion. Further four couples left the competition, but they didn’t go home empty handed either! They all received a couples’ Honeymoon Bliss Pamper Package in the Radisson Blu’s Solas Spa.

Things then all got a bit messy with the final six couples icing for Wedding Olympics victory in a Cake Decorating round, after which they had to say goodbye to Catherine and Kelvin, and Mary and James. They all received a weekend away in the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Cork or Limerick for being such good sports.

Tensions rose in the penultimate round – a sing-off in which the final four couples hit the microphones to wow the audience and judges with their renditions of the Black Eyed Peas favourite “I Gotta Feeling” accompanied by live band Deja Groove. Thomas and Edel and Grainne and Liam were heartbroken by their elimination. They all received a five star weekend break in Radisson Blu St Helen’s for their sterling efforts.

Finally it was down to just two couples, Orna and Thomas, and Emer and Padraig went head-to-head in a nail-biting Mr & Mrs Q&A round. The tension in the room was palpable but after four questions an ecstatic Orna and Thomas emerged as the victors. But Emer and Padraig still got a real treat! The amazing Deja Groove and DJ Scruffy Duffy gave their services for free as a runner up prize. The pair also received two nights, an evening meal, plus a pamper package in the Radisson Blu Farnham Estate! Salon 2 offered to do the hair for the runners up bridal party.

The Radisson Blu Hotel Sligo’s Sales and Marketing Director Arlene Gibbs said the day could not have gone better. “We’re so pleased with the great turn out for the Wedding Olympics. We want to thank everyone who took the time to vote and who came along to the day itself,” she said. “I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the wonderful suppliers who have participated. I’d also like to thank our media judges Alison Mc Gilligan VIP Magazine, Caroline Moore Weddingsonline and John Feerick, Sligo Champion. And finally, a special thank you to the couples themselves who have been such good sports. Congratulations to our winners Orna McGowan and Thomas McAndrew! We look forward to being a part of their big day on the 11-11-11.”
