5 Stylish Ways for the Maid of Honour to Stand Out

Bridesmaids, Fashion & Jewellery

Being a bridesmaid is a big privilege but being asked to be Maid of Honour is extra special! One trend we’ve seen pop up more and more on Pinterest is the Maid of Honour donning a different dress to the other bridesmaids. It’s a great way to ensure she stands out and lets her and others know just how important she is. Check out some easy ways to let your MOH stand out below…

1. Opt for a Different Colour

One of the easiest ways to let your MOH stand out is with the same dress, just in a different colour. This way your girls will still have that uniform look but the pop of colour is enough to let people know who the Maid of Honour is. We love the elegant blush pink and black combo above (and below) and these summery coral and mint dresses below are equally as gorgeous! Or you could keep all the girls in the same colour and dress the MOH in a lighter or darker shade.

2. Stand Out in a Pretty Print

Floral prints look fab, are super summery and the girls love them but it can be hard work to pull off the mix and match floral prints look! It’s grand if the girls are happy to wear one print (sorted!) but adding other fabrics and prints in to the equation can end up being a bit of a headache. If you’re looking to add some whimsy to your girls attire without causing too much hassle for yourself, one way to work in the floral trend is by letting your leading lady stand out in a pretty print all to herself. It can bring a pop of colour and fun to the bridal party’s look plus the MOH gets to stand out in something a little more striking. Check out some bridal parties that pulled off this look with panache below…

3. Get Glam with Sequins & Glitter

Embellished gowns are super popular this year and not just for winter weddings! More and more brides are letting their ladies dazzle in full length sequinned numbers or are getting their glitz fix with a hint of sparkle across the bodice. If you’re looking for just a smidge of sparkle, one option is to dress your maids in a uniform colour and let your Maid of Honour sparkle in an embellished number all on her own. Or if you’re keen for your girls to get their glitz on, opt for lightly embellished dresses for the bridesmaids and a full-on glitter gúna for your main sidekick.

4. Opt for a Luscious Lace Overlay

Lace has always been a go-to fabric for brides but this pretty fabric is having a bit of a moment with maids as well. Romantic and timeless, lace details are popping up in lots of gorgeous ways from full statement lace numbers to dainty cap sleeves, lace backs and pretty overlays. If you don’t fancy decking out all your maids in lacy numbers, let you MOH stand out by wearing a lace number instead. Check out some of our favourite lace-inspired bridesmaid dresses here!

5. Emphasise the Accessories

If you’re looking for a subtle way to say ‘this gal is the MOH’, think accessories. Things like a different bouquet (it could have different flowers or colours, could be larger than the others, have a different ribbon tie, or you could go glitzy with a brooch bouquet), a different colour sash (or add a hint of glitz with an embellished belt) or a statement necklace will let your Maid of Honour feel that little bit more important while still keeping the harmony and balance. We also love the idea of giving the MOH a floral crown to match the bride’s or different colour shoes if the girls are in short dresses!
