Send personal invitations

Let everybody know you’re having a virtual wedding and you want them there! Here’s some language you could use to keep the tone upbeat and exciting:

  • Love isn’t cancelled
  • Let’s try this again!
  • Plot twist! We’re going virtual
  • (Name) and (Name) take two

Dress code

As the couple saying ‘I do’, you can get away with wearing anything! You could wear the outfits you originally picked, or choose something a little more lowkey (here are some fab ideas!). As for your guests, why not make the most of this opportunity to add a pop of colour! Ask everybody to wear something bright in the spirit of celebration. This additional burst of colour is sure to add another layer of happiness and joy to your Big Day.

The setting

Whether you are live streaming from your ceremony location, your home or somewhere else, the setting is key! Use dreamy florals, custom signage, balloon installations or even simple pot plants and an oversized rug! If you’re stuck, here are some ceremony backdrop ideas you’ll love. Don’t forget that your backdrop will be the focal point for your virtual guests, so frame your ceremony and make it beautiful.

Consider the ‘on-screen’ experience

Think about what it will be like to celebrate virtually. What will guests be looking at while you transition from one part of the day to another. Would you like to have something pop up on the screen to signify that you’re having your first dance shortly, for example? Another option is to include an MC or live stream host who can keep your virtual guests in the loop. Not only will these details keep your guests informed, but they’ll feel like they’re an even bigger part of your day and not simply an add-on.

Make a playlist

Set the tone by having the perfect pre-wedding playlist for guests to listen to as they log in. Consider what you’d have playing at your wedding ceremony for guests who are in the building and mimic that.

Keep it interactive

You don’t want your virtual guests to feel like an add-on, so find ways to include them! Invite your guests to use a fun, virtual background and don’t forget to have a chat function so guests can wish you well. Ask your celebrant to give your virtual guests a big shout-out so they know you’re thinking of them too. Consider incorporating a special moment in the ceremony, where guests are invited to unmute so you can hear them cheering, clapping and celebrating with you!

Send gift bags

If you want to go above and beyond, put together a sweet gift bag to send to each guest, couple or family. Here are some fun ideas of what you could put in your gift bags:

  • A little bottle of Prosseco for the toasts
  • The wedding programme
  • A fun game, like Newlywed Bingo
  • Confetti or party poppers
  • Quirky accessories to wear or display
  • Wedding favours

Keep the party going

The party doesn’t end once the ceremony is over! Invite your virtual guests to stick around for cocktail hour too. Suggest a speciality cocktail they could make and incorporate some interactive games and activities for everybody to join in on. Don’t forget to make a kick-ass playlist for this part of the day too!
