We met… As friends of friends. The more times we met each other the more we got to know each other and became comfortable in each others company.

Our proposal… This came as a surprise and a long time after we got together. We went on holiday to Madeira in 2015. While there we visited the Lava Pools. Patrick found a quiet spot and while I was distracted got down on bended knee. It was such an unexpected surprise for me. I accepted his proposal.

Our wedding theme/colours… The theme was Traditional (Obviously Church Wedding) with a hint of Gatsby Glamour. I like the 20s era and wanted to incorporate some of this into the wedding. The colours were not really picked in advance. However the Groom and Groomsmen wanted navy or dark blue suits and the Groom had to have a pocket watch. The Bridesmaids dresses were a mauve and white floor length gown with some diamante to make them sparkle and fit in with the theme. Everything else was to be traditional white with some sparkles and the flowers were to make a big statement on this simple elegant background.

Things we DIY’d/made ourselves… Almost all of the decor was a DIY activity. I sourced small laser cut boxes that had to be made up for the Wedding favours. In each box I placed 2 Ferrero Rocher. All other trinkets including love signs, Mr and Mrs signs and photos were all handmade to add to the decor. The invitations were also lazer cut and plain white which I decorated and typed up individually. I bought a cheap arch in a garden centre and decorated this with fake flowers and Chiffon fabric which was placed at the front door along with a red carpet (made of felt). The Church was also decorated that morning by a family member using candles and bows on every pue as well as other diy trinkets I had previously put together.

My dress… Was not what I expected to buy. It was a Fish Tail shape. No embellishment. Ivory in colour with a drop waist corset type bodice and sweetheart neckline. The skirt split into two layers of lace and the train was really long. I also wore a Cathedral length Veil which extended just over the end of the train of the dress. It was described as dramatic by a guest and I was very happy with that description.

My hair and make up…My Hair was done by a friend of a friend. It was fully pinned up into a messy upstyle with one or two fine curls falling in front. My makeup was also done by a very talented friend who made me look like the most stunning version of me. She used the most natural makeup and colours so that I didn’t look completely made up but more natural.

His suit…was a subtle check dark blue double-breasted three-piece suit. He also wore textured light silver waistcoat tie along with a pocket watch with the chain on show. He wore Oxblood Dress shoes

What our bridal party wore…The bridesmaids wore light mauve/Nude floor-length gowns with an ivory bodice and some diamante embellishments around the top. This linked perfectly with the Gatsby theme. The groomsmen wore navy suits with Silver waistcoats and brown shoes.

Our ceremony…It was a Church Wedding and was very Traditional.

We chose our photographer because… his website looked like it had all of the ingredients we wanted out of our pictures and video to help with remembering the day. Upon meeting with Philip he explained how he was going to capture all the moments we wanted of our wedding day without being in the way. He explained that he would be as unnoticed as possible throughout the day and also capture the natural pictures as well as the posed ones. This is exactly what we were looking for and we booked him without hesitation.

We chose our wedding coordinator because…We did not have a wedding coordinator. I did all of the organising myself. I spoke with booked and arranged all the parts of the day with each vendor. On the wedding day my chief bridesmaid took my phone and dealt with anything necessary on the day.

We chose our venue because…It was so close to home. The Killashee is also a fabulous hotel and looks like a castle from the outside. The grounds are amazing also and very nice background for pictures. Inside it has that extravagant manor house decor and so it fits in very nicely with my glamorous Gatsby theme.

Our menu… we tried to cater for the majority of our guests’ palette also taking into consideration any allergies. To start we had crab salad or caesar salad. Then we had a Mediterranean soup. The main course was either fillet of beef or sea bass and of course, an assiette of dessert which consisted of mini apple pie and ice cream, mini pavlova, mini raspberry shortbread and mini, mango cheesecake. It was delicious and we had so many compliments from our guests on the night and many since.

Our honeymoon… we went to Vietnam and did a 15 day Tour of the country North to South. It was amazing to see and such a stunning place to visit. Highly recommended. Along with beautiful beaches and fantastic scenery there were short cruises too. We then ended in Ho Chi Mhin City where we stayed for a further week. We explored and relaxed. Much needed break!!

My favourite part of the wedding day… our favorite part of the wedding day was in the church throughout the whole ceremony we took time to notice each other and take it all in. After this we went back to our house for a few photos and while we were alone we talked and took a breather before meeting up with all of our guests again. It was nice to spend this time alone on our special day.

My piece of advice for other couples… Do as much DIY as you can. It is so easy to make decor look good with cheaply sourced items. Weddings are expensive enough without paying out for every little detail. Do a budget and stick to it. Make a list of the must haves and bits that are super important to you on your day and spend the money on that. The rest is just filler. Also remember it is YOUR day. Do what you want YOUR way!!!
