What you’ll wear

Do you want jaws to drop when you arrive at your wedding location? Of course you do! So don’t show anybody what you’re wearing and allow the surprise to increase anticipation. Sure, it may be pretty tempting to share photos with your friends, so if that’s you, here’s what you do: only show photos with those who joined you while you were dress/suit shopping. For everyone else, keep your lips sealed and let it be a surprise.

Hair and makeup

If you’re planning on rocking hair and makeup that’s different to your daily look, then keep it a surprise. If you skip sharing the details, you’re more likely to hear the encouraging ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ as you walk down the aisle.

Wedding colours

You want your guests to be surprised when they see your venue and decor, so don’t tell them too much about your wedding style. Sure, if guests are smart they’ll notice your colours from your invitations and website, and that’s totally ok!

Decor details

Your nearest and dearest won’t need to know all the details about your wedding decor before the day. Your theme may give them a hint, but allow the nitty-gritty elements to be a surprise. Don’t tell them what type of centrepieces you’ve selected or which table linens you’ve got. Allow them to marvel at these details when they step into the venue!

Song choices

There are a few moments in your wedding timeline where music plays a key role. We’re talking about walking down the aisle or your First Dance. Allow these song choices to remain a surprise and wow your guests with them in the moment!

Guest List

Don’t be surprised if you get texts from friends asking if so-and-so is coming along to the wedding. The reality is, you don’t have to divulge this information if you don’t want to. it can be pretty awkward trying to explain why somebody didn’t make the cut!

Wedding favours

Would you tell your bestie what you bought her for her birthday before you give it to her? Probably not! Consider your wedding favours in the same way and let your guests be surprised. It doesn’t matter how big or small they are, they’re still gifts and your guests will be excited to unwrap them.

Surprises

Ok, this one should be pretty obvious, but we’ll say it anyway. If you’ve arranged a special entertainment surprise, keep it on the DL. We’re talking about singing waiters, a Celtic dance routine, a video booth at the venue or a fabulous magician. Let your guests enjoy the surprise!
