“It’s nice to know that the proposal is still underneath our new porcelain tiles!”
The couple: Melissa Tangney & Gerard O’Sullivan
Length of engagement: Two years | Wedding date: 27th September 2014
Wedding location: Dingle Skellig Hotel, Dingle, Co. Kerry
Photographer: Elaine Kennedy Photography
We met… at a mutual friend’s 21st birthday party in a local bar.
Our proposal… was on August 10th 2012. On a scorching summer’s day, Gerard phoned while I was on my way home from work asking me to call into our new home which was under renovation at the time. We were due to meet up with a group of friends later that afternoon at a festival nearby. He wanted to show me some sample pieces of skirting and architrave. When I arrived at the house and opened the front door, Gerry was down on bended knee with a ring in hand in the hallway with ‘Will You Marry Me’ painted on the concrete floor and of course I said ‘Yes’. The house we were renovating was my grandparents’ house so it was the beginning of a new chapter for us and it is nice to know that the proposal is still underneath our new porcelain tiles.
My dress… My dress was Pronovias Urdeil from the Glamour 2014 collection from Aibheil of Adare. I teamed it with a long two tier veil and vintage brooch hair piece along with a stunning vintage brooch bouquet.
What our bridal party wore… Gerard and his groomsmen wore navy tailored three piece suits, white shirts and navy ties, teamed with brown brogue leather shoes and personalised pocket watches. Our pageboy wore a suit with trendy navy Converse. The bridesmaids wore Eliza and Ethan Multi Wrap dresses in Azalea, teamed with a light grey strappy sandal. Our flowers girls wore a frosted sequin rosette dress from Monsoon with an ivory fur cape from Debenhams.
Our ceremony… took place at St. Gobnaits Church Boolteens celebrated by Fr. Daniel O Gorman. The church singer was Roisin Ryan accompanied by musician Morgan Pierce.
We chose our photographer because… Elaine (Elaine Kennedy Photography) is outstanding at capturing the right moment without specifically posing for the camera! There are so many amazing photos it is nearly impossible to choose an album! She fades into the background and you’d forget that the camera is even there.
My favourite part of the wedding day… It is very hard to choose one part of the day. Everything from the bridal preparations, the church, the photographs, the drinks reception, the meal, the band, to the late night dancing was epic! If we had to choose one part it is likely the church – meeting all our family and friends and beginning the day together.
We chose our venue because… of the stunning scenic location at Dingle Bay, the amazing food and staff and the excellent wedding packages available at the Dingle Skellig Hotel. The Dingle Skellig Hotel provides everything one could ask for in choosing your wedding venue. Rosarii, our wedding co-ordinator at the hotel, ensured we were looked after from the very beginning. Any questions big or small were never a problem and we were treated so well throughout the entire planning stages. From picking out our menu, arranging the accommodation, seating plans, drinks receptions – everything was tailored to our requirements and we commend them for their outstanding service on the day. They are always one step ahead and will guide you in the right way to making a decision based on their experience.

Our honeymoon… Our first stop was the All-inclusive Stay at the Zilwa Attitude Resort and Spa on the island of Mauritius for seven nights. We then travelled to Dubai where we stayed at the 5 star Shangri La hotel for four nights. The honeymoon was truly amazing – sun, sea, sand, cocktails, shopping, great food, great people and the best of company.
My piece of advice for other brides… Enjoy every second and keep smiling!
