Wedding Planning Advice From Real Couples Like You
Give your phone to someone else
“Give your phone to your bridesmaids. I had given suppliers my bridesmaid’s number as point of contact but they still all called me. Claire took my phone and dealt with every query/issue like an absolute pro while the others filled my glass. Just enjoy your day, do not stress over the DIY because you are the only one who will notice it and likewise if anything goes wrong. You are the only one who will have known what was meant to go right so just take the day as it comes, soak it in together and don’t be afraid to get the dress dirty, it’s worth it for the photos.” – Kacie and Darren [See more]
Do you
“You do you. You will be told by everyone what you should do and what’s traditional etc.” – Carol and Derek [See more]
Don’t stress
“Don’t stress. Although it was one of the most stressful things we did in our lives (the organisation, the planning), it was so worth it in the long run. Myself and Nathan didn’t even get to cut our cake and we didn’t even notice until the next day! Haha. Have the time of your life and enjoy yourselves! It goes by in a flash.” – Rebecca and Nathan [See more]
Less is more
“My advice to everyone getting married is to do what YOU want. You only get one day. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If people let you down don’t let it upset you, everyone you love will be there and you will just be so happy to be surrounded by them on the day! And the big one for us, less really is more. It’s definitely NOT about the numbers there. It’s about the love in the room for you. Don’t get bogged down with numbers, I can honestly say that my own wedding was the BEST wedding I’ve ever been to! And my wife and many guests said the same. Just relax, enjoy the day and let it be about you both.” – Lorna and Jenny [See more]
Enjoy every second
“Everyone says the day goes so fast but it really does! Try to enjoy every second and try not to get too stressed during the planning stage because it’ll be the best day no matter what!” – Kaitie and Pauric [See more]
Write lists
“I know everybody says it, but enjoy every second because it really does go by in a flash! When planning the day I found sitting down and writing lists on days/evenings when I wasn’t busy or had a quiet moment was really useful. I had written a list of things to pack in my suitcase and things to drop to the church/hotel and I found them so helpful when I was a bag of nerves the day before the wedding! If not for the lists, I think I’d have forgotten half the bits I needed!” – Sinead and Brendan [See more]
Use weddingsonline
“Use weddingsonline and groups on Facebook (HIGM) for inspiration or help with planning. Don’t panic, there is always an alternative. I left my wedding signs until last minute (less than a week to the big day) and ended up asking PrintSave to do them. They had them designed and done in 2 days.” – Stephanie and Metro [See more]
Take time to let it all sink in
“
Book a videographer
“Try book all your main things as early as you can as it will take a bit of pressure off. We think a videographer is definitely worth it if you’re on the fence. Also try take in as much as you can on the day. It’s true what they say, it goes by so quick. Don’t be getting stressed about things that are out of your control. It’s going to be an amazing day no matter what.” – Emma and Conor [See more]
Hire a good planner
“My Advice would be to not sweat the little things. I was fixated on table design etc renting candlesticks, tablecloths etc. If you have a good planner they can do all of this, plus our flower vendors designed and layed out the room so wonderfully. I am very hands on as a person but sometimes you need to trust and delegate the jobs! Also Jenny’s schedule – stick to the photographers schedule and just take the day in as it goes by so quickly!” – Edel and Simon [See more]
Trust your suppliers
“Trust your venue and suppliers. We couldn’t fault a single thing on the day. Our suppliers and staff at the venue together captured our vision for the day and more. Don’t stress the little things, they won’t matter on the day.” – Camillia and Andy [See more]
