With January coming to an end, wedding plans should be well under way and you’ll be soon thinking of the finer details and more fun stuff – the little things that can add impact to your big day! With this in mind, we enlisted the help of wedding planner Extraordinaire Sharon Mc Meel to talk you through some fabulous trends making an appearance in 2014. From gorgeous blush tones and Pantone’s vibrant colour of the year, radiant orchid, to the raging debate over social weddings, here’s some things brides and grooms will be loving (or loathing if you’re not a fan of FB etc.) in 2014…

Over to Sharon…

Can you believe January is nearly over already!  Before you know it your own big day will be upon you. So with that in mind let’s talk about the latest wedding trends for 2014 and hopefully you will get some inspiration and new ideas for your wedding day.

COLOUR

Colour has a big impact on any wedding but you don’t have to go bold to create a statement. This year’s wedding colours are giving us a choice of both. Blush pinks, nudes and peaches have made a comeback for 2014 and offer a lovely romantic feel with a touch of subtle elegance and serenity. You can bring this trend through your day with stunning blush pink dresses like those seen on the catwalks from Monique Lhuillier and A Watters, pink macarons or stunning delicate bridal bouquets.

Pantone’s colour of the year radiant orchid will offer a feeling of pure luxury and richness to any wedding and it’s also the colour of creativity. For the adventurous couple why not go all out with this colour as your main theme. For a more understated approach bring little touches of orchid together with the blush pinks and nudes for a beautiful colour combination.

Speaking about their colour of the year Pantone said, “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health”. What a wonderful thing to bring to your wedding day! For more ideas on how to bring radiant orchid into your wedding, you can check out my inspiration board on Pinterest.

SOCIAL MEDIA

When it comes to social media and weddings the camp is divided. Many couples are introducing a special hastag #maryjohnwedding, for their guests to upload their images to social media while others are opting for more privacy.

This year for those who want their wedding to remain private, you can add requests to your invitations or have a sign at the ceremony asking guests to refrain from posting images from your big day to social media sites. After putting so much thought and effort into your day, some couples may not want guests to experience their wedding from behind a smartphone but instead want them to be completely present and enjoy it.

SLOW MOTION VIDEO BOOTHS

The simple photo booth is getting an upgrade. This year’s funky new technology feature for weddings is the slow motion video booth.  Using well-chosen props and specialist technology you can create a fantastic, fun and different wedding video.  It is a great way of showing the party mood in a way that photos or normal videos can’t.  Check out some examples on YouTube.com and I challenge you not to laugh!
