Today we’re talking about bridal hair care! There are four common mistakes brides tend to make, so I’ve enlisted the help of two fabulous wedding hair care experts. They’re helping me to articulate what these mistakes are, how you can avoid them and what you can do instead.
A BIG thank you to Emma K Creative Styling and Dani Pattison Hair for joining me today!
Don’t choose the wrong hair extensions
From Emma K Creative Styling:
Why do bridal hair stylists recommend clip in hair extensions over permanent extensions for your wedding:
- They offer choice and can be moved around and positioned exactly where you need them.
- This flexibility is crucial for creating gorgeous, elevated hairstyles.
- Intricate updo or flowing waves? Clip-ins can help you!
- The ease of styling – with clip-ins, you can create the volume and length needed.
- They are damage-free!
- Don’t leave ordering your hair extensions to the last minute. Planning ahead allows you to find the perfect match for your hair colour and texture. You don’t want to be scrambling at the last minute!
Don’t experiment with new hair products, dyes and styles 6 months before your wedding
Unless you find a new style that you absolutely love, there’s a chance you’ll be left with regrets. This is particularly true for box dyes and at home haircuts! Leave it all up to the pros and consult your wedding hairstylist before making any dramatic changes.
New products may cause an allergic reaction, so don’t start experimenting too close to the wedding day.
Don’t skip your hair trial
From Dani Pattison Hair:
You might be thinking – isn’t a hair trial just an extra expense! But it’s not… your wedding day hair isn’t a gamble you want to take.
- Communication is key – you’ll get to know your hairstylist!
- You’ll chat about your hair care routine, your face shape and any other burning questions you have.
- You’ll talk through your hair inspiration and everything in between, like your hair texture and colour.
- You’ll then talk about hair extensions if required.
- A trial will build your confidence – you don’t want to wake up on your wedding day feeling stressed about your hair!
Don’t be unprepared
- Get to your hair trial with all your accessory options, even if you can’t choose which one to wear.
- Take photos of your dress to your trial – it’s helpful for your stylist to see how your hairstyle will fit into your overall bridal look, including the bits you want to emphasise.
- Start a good hair care routine well before your wedding day – learn which products bring out the best in your hair! A good routine will include a deep conditioning treatment (your hairstylist could do the treatment for you or recommend products to use) as well as a well timed trim.
- Ask your hairstylist when you should wash your hair before the Big Day – usually NOT the night before or the morning of, if you want your hairstyle to stick.
