We met online in June 2014 after making Gareth wait two weeks to meet me he persevered and it was actually my friend who was visiting from Norway who pushed me to go on my first date with Gareth. After  I had told her everything I know about him she wanted to hear in person before she returned home how great the date was. Gareth and I had our first date in the Schoolhouse Bar & Restaurant on a beautiful sunny June evening. We went for one drink and this quickly turned into three neither of us wanting to leave. Gareth being the gentleman that he is walked me towards my apartment after before he jumped in a taxi home.

Our proposal for me was completely out of the blue and a massive surprise. Gareth booked the Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore and when we arrived we went to have lunch on their outdoor terrace where Gareth had reserved a private area on their balcony. After a delicious lunch and a beverage or two Gareth got down on one knee and proposed to me – it couldn’t have been more perfect. I was so shocked and surprised I forgot to say yes and after about 5 minutes of tears and laughter Gareth said I assume that is a yes then?

Our wedding theme/colours our theme was timeless elegance with a colour palette used of white, ivory and blush pink.

My dress was selected for me by Anne Gregory of Anne Gregory Bridal in Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow. I searching all the rails of dresses and selected the ones I wanted to try on. Anne picked one dress gave it to my bridesmaid and said make sure she tries this on. That dress was an Allure Bridal dress and fitted me like a glove with very little alterations needed. Anne selected the perfect dress for my style and also complimented my body shape perfectly. I cannot speak highly enough of Anne Gregory and her team – Anne is a super star.

My hair stylist was Shelley Walsh (The Powder Room Girls) and it was a soft up-style with curls and makeup artist was Adele Miley who I can honestly say enhances your natural beauty to ensure you look the best form of you on your big day! The pictures turned out fabulous too.

His suit was a three piece lounge suit in blue hired from Tangos Suit Hire in Temple bar. Mark and his team were an absolute pleasure to deal with from our first meeting to final fitting to collecting the suits before the big day. Mark is customer centric to the core and takes enormous pride in his work.

What our bridal party wore the bridesmaids wore dresses that were purchased from Anne Gregory Bridal they were Hayley Paige Occasions bridesmaids dress – Candlelight satin bridesmaid ball gown curved V-neckline, spaghetti straps, natural waist, side pocket in blush. The Groomsmen wore the same suit as the groom and we hired this from Tangos Suit hire in Temple bar.

Our ceremony was held at Kilternan Parish Church on the Enniskerry Road, Kilternan and was celebrated by The Reverend Rob Clements.

We chose our videographer because we really liked Ronan’s natural fly on the wall approach to shooting his previous weddings and from all the reviews I had researched online he came highly recommended. After speaking with Ronan on the phone he also came across as a really lovely person which is really important as remember they are with you each step of your wedding day! We were not disappointed the quality of the video and how Ronan told our wedding story is exceptional and one we will cherish forever.

We chose our venue because we are both perfectionists, when we met Joe O’Flynn and his team at Rathsallagh we knew they were too! Joe was the first venue that focused on everything that we could do rather than reading us the rule book on restrictions. I have to say it was the best decision we made Joe and his team were world class to deal with no detail was too small or too large for them. The grounds are stunning and we were very fortunate to have fabulous weather on our wedding day which allowed us to have our drinks reception outdoors in the rose garden. The venue is also private to you for the day which means that only your guests are on the property so you can party as late as you like! On top of all this, the food that was served to us & our guests on our wedding day was outstanding. So many of our guests complimented the food not just for the quality but also the quantity that they were offered.

My favourite part of the wedding day was the drive from the church (Kilternan Parish Church) to the venue (Rathsallagh Country House). This took us 50 minutes in total which when we booked the church and venue we thought “oh that is quite long” however on the day it was such a lovely moment for Gareth and I. This time allowed us to be on our own and soak up the ceremony that just happened as well as catch up on the night before which we had spent apart. As the distance was almost an hour we decided to splurge on the car and hired a silver Rolls Royce Phantom from Absolute Limos. Stephen our drive was amazing. He was there every step of the way helping us in and out of the car and ensuring our glasses were never empty!

My piece of advice for other couples I will leave you with four pieces of advice:

  1. Remember it is about you and your bride/groom – your needs come first!
You will receive a lot of advice both requested and opinions from people just keep coming back to the fact that there are two people this day is about – you and your partner. Always ensure that you are picking what you would want and not listening to others!
  2. Book a photographer, videographer, make-up artist & hair stylist that you like personally
Yes, it is important that you admire the professional work & style of your photographer, videographer, make-up artist and hair stylist but it is equally as important that they are nice people and you like them personally. They are the people that will be with you as you get ready on the morning of your wedding day we had such a great atmosphere in the house on the morning. My parents, the bridesmaids and myself were all calm and really enjoyed ourselves as the professionals we worked with were lovely people!
  3. Take time out with your new husband/wife to soak up the atmosphere on the day
Take some time on the day for you and your new husband/wife to take it all in and enjoy the moment. The day goes by so quickly – I know everyone tells you this but it really does. We were lucky to have the car journey from the church to the venue but if you don’t have that natural time together build it into your day.
  4. Book a Honeymoon that isn’t too long a flight!
Consider doing a minimoon after the wedding and then a honeymoon later in the year or start of the following year. This will also help you with annual leave. The reason I say this is you are exhausted after your wedding day and getting on a long haul flight I just wouldn’t have been able for it I’m honest. We spent time in Croatia and really enjoyed it. We plan to head to New Zealand in the next 12 months for a longer period of time as our honeymoon. Also, I would postpone your honeymoon for a couple of days after your wedding. This allows you to pack for your honeymoon, go to the bank to lodge any gifts and track them. We did this and found it a huge help.
