What is a wedding theme?
A wedding theme is the central idea that will inform all of your choices, it can be guided by your colour palette or a specific topic such as sunflowers, travel or literature. Your theme will unite all your choices from the decor to the outfits, food choices, flowers and cake, everything you choose will work from that main idea. Over the course of your wedding planning it’s not unusual for your theme to change and evolve, but it’s one area that you should consider at the beginning of your planning process.
How do I choose a wedding theme?
The worlds your oyster when it comes to choosing a theme so we’ve listed a few ideas that will help you decide. We’ve no doubt, whatever you choose will be perfect for your celebration, trust your instincts…
1. Consider your personalities
You should take both shared and individual likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests into account. If you have a shared passion such as travel or animals that makes a great starting point.
2. Don’t forget your venue
The venue you have chosen will have an impact on how your day will look. If you’ve chosen a country house, chances are you will have an elegant and timeless theme to suit the surroundings. Likewise, an outdoor forest venue will capture a rustic theme perfectly.
3. Stick with the season
There really are no hard and fast rules to using a certain colour during a certain season but seasonality will play a part in choosing your theme. Spring and summer weddings may have a more fresh organic, floral feel with all the sunlight, whilst autumn and winter weddings tend to be cosier with warm lighting and a luxurious feel.
4. Look for inspiration
Of course the biggie when it comes to wedding inspiration is Pinterest, but don’t fall head over heels for one specific image - there’s a very good chance its from an ultra styled shoot that your budget will never replicate! Use Pinterest carefully to find ideas you like but be mindful that you are designing your day. 5. Use your budget to guide your choices
Some themes will be more affordable that others, and it is very important you know what you have to spend and that you stick to it. Be realistic and practical, we are all for couples beginning married life happy and not drowning in wedding debt!
6. Don’t worry if you don’t settle on a theme
Not all couples will say their day has a theme, and that is okay. Just because you can’t put a name on it, your choices will reflect you as a couple and will be beautiful. Don’t feel pressurised to name it and stick to it, although we do advise you carefully consider any huge changes after you have the main suppliers booked.
