WOL Answers: What Can I Expect From A Wedding Showcase?

Planning & Advice

What Is a Wedding Show?

A wedding show (also called a showcase, fair, or expo) is an event typically held at a wedding venue or convention centre — a place where engaged couples can explore everything wedding-related under one roof.

There are a few types of wedding shows you might come across:

  • Wedding Venue Showcase: The wedding venue opens its doors to couples and the spaces are often styled just like during a real wedding. You’ll usually find other wedding professionals on-site, from florists to photographers, ready to chat about their services.
  • Wedding Fair or Expo: This is a large-scale event featuring dozens — sometimes hundreds — of wedding suppliers. You can wander through the stands, sample their work, and discover a variety of styles and ideas.

No matter which type of wedding show you attend, we highly recommend visiting at least one during your engagement! They are a brilliant way to gather ideas, meet potential suppliers, and be inspired.

Why You Should Attend a Wedding Showcase

  • It’s fun! You will enjoy freebies, samples, discounts, competitions, entertainment, cake tastings, bubbly — and the buzz of being surrounded by wedding professionals and fellow engaged couples.
  • Meet suppliers: Connect face-to-face with photographers, florists, stylists, and more. See their work, ask questions, and even make bookings.
  • Get inspired: Browsing Pinterest is great, but nothing beats seeing decor, dresses, and setups in real life.
  • Snag discounts and freebies: Many suppliers offer exclusive deals if you book during or right after the show — don’t miss out!
  • Ask questions: Whether it’s about catering, capacity, or decor policies, this is your chance to get real answers directly from the experts.
  • Discover what you don’t want: Seeing things in person can help clarify your preferences — sometimes you’ll discover what doesn’t fit your vision, and that’s just as valuable.

How to Make the Most of a Wedding Showcase

Attending a wedding show is exciting, but a little preparation goes a long way. Here are some tips to help you make the most of it:

  • Wear comfortable shoes: You’ll be on your feet for a while. If you plan to try on dresses, bring your heels in a bag.
  • Choose the right companion: Bring someone enthusiastic and patient — your partner, best friend, mum, or sister. You’ll want someone who’s happy to explore, chat, and sample along with you.
  • Eat before you go: Fuel up beforehand and bring water so you can stay energised throughout the day (you’ll still have plenty of room for cake samples!).
  • Know your priorities: Arrive with a rough plan. If you’re hunting for a photographer, florist, or venue, head to those stalls first.
  • Take notes: Keep a note on your phone with the names and details of suppliers you like — and what you loved about them.
  • Snap photos: Photos will help jog your memory later, especially from businesses or displays you don’t want to forget.
  • Ask questions: Come prepared with a list — from dietary options to decor policies or how many weddings a venue hosts per day. There’s no such thing as too many questions!
