Amy Meehan Music
Christmas is my favourite time to play music at weddings as I think Christmas songs and hymns really add something special to each couples big day.
My top 3 would be:
Silent Night – Such a classic Christmas hymn. I love to play this stripped back on acoustic guitar and vocal and think it’s such a memorable moment in any couples ceremony.
White Christmas – For weddings really close to Christmas Day I think White Christmas is the perfect choice. I play this as a jazzy version on piano.

My last Christmas Song Choice would be Merry Christmas Everyone for an exit song. It’s so upbeat and it gets everyone ready for the celebrations after your ceremony!

We have played Fairytale of New York and Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade every year for the last 20 years.
The Ceólminers
I like to take a break and spend quality time with my family and friends, but I do have a couple of songs we get requests for at this time of year.
One is Fairytale of New York by the great Shane Mc Gowan. We do our own version on guitar, banjo and harmonica. It’s a great sing-along song that everybody knows and loves to join in on.
Another song we get requests for is called “The Bitter, Sweet and Warm”.
It’s a Christmas song I wrote and released two years ago as a single. It’s a nostalgic festive song about Christmas shopping trips to Dublin when I was a teenager. It also has a homelessness theme woven into the story which is still a very big issue for a lot of people. It’s one of my favourite original songs, was played on RTE Radio1 and did well for me on Spotify.

Our most popular requests are:
Ceremony
Oh Holy Night
Whitney Houston “Joy to the World”
Mariah’s “All I want for Christmas is you”
Drinks Reception
The Pogues “Fairytale of New York”
Mariah’s “All I want for Christmas is you”
Doug Sheridan
I love to play Christmas songs for ceremonies and drinks reception in Dec. If couples don’t know how to squeeze one into their ceremony (at the expense of the other songs they’re set on) I always offer to play a couple as their guests arrive pre ceremony. I also love to play a Christmas section in my drinks reception, including a few the kids love – it always gets a brilliant response. Obviously the traditional carols are a perfect fit for religious ceremonies at that time of year.
My top 3 requested:
Driving Home For Christmas
Fairytale of New York
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (gotta keep the kids happy)
Grace Russell Music

The top three Christmas songs I am asked for at a festive wedding are:
1. “IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS” (BUBLE VERSION).
2. “WINTER WONDERLAND”.
3. “CHRISTMAS MEMORIES” FRANK SINATRA.
“Christmas Memories” is not a well known Christmas song but it has a beautiful sentiment of the joy of Christmas being passed from generation to generation – I suggest it and when I send them the video I made of the song, they always want it included.
