Advice pls

My DH woke up with a sore eye, and its all puffy and swollen, little bit red on the insideof the eyelid, but he's complaining of a headache and it being sore (this could also be "man pain"- i know that sounds terrible, but out of anyone i know him best) As money is extremely tight this wk, we are looking at all options, i suggested that he go straight to the eye specialist- it could cost €80+ (he is expensive but good) Hubby instead has made an appt with doctor who will prob charge €50- do nothing with it and refer him to eye specialist anyway- doctor also doesnt have appt until 3 What would you do, i also suggested maybe driving into local eye opticians, he cant really do all as he is working and they are not very lenient with time off, affects efficiency levels etc

Why not go to the chemist first and see if they recommend doctor or eye doctor.

This is a toughie... Does he suffer with eye infections? It could be that the doctor will be able to have a look and perscribe something? Also has he spoken to a pharmacist? Often they can give a good opinion and advise what to do next?

I think he's better off going to the doctor - especially seeing as he has a headache with it. They'll check that out and make sure it's not anything serious, and probably prescribe antibiotics for his eye, or tell him to take antihistamines.

I would call into the chemist or opticians.. I get eye infections all the time and there are drops (that I just cannot remember the name of). You buy them over the counter in the chemist for about €5 and it will clear it up really quickly. Optician will be able to have a look though and confirm that there is nothing in his eye.... and would confirm the name of the drops.

id check with the pharmacist 1st, it might be something small, and if its something major, they will suggest the doctor, but at least the pharmacist is free hope his eye gets better.(ps.,we have man pain in our house too, i feel for you)

Diamonz- i think those drops are brolene- they are quite good, With your eyes, you have to be really careful and a lot of the time chemist refer you to doctor, doctor refer you to eye specialist, thank god it is the left eye, he got lead in his right eye, and we spent our nice romantic wknd away in A&E in limerick last year!! such a nightmare

Brolene drops - that's the ones!! Optician in town would have a look for him though and will know more than the GP I would have thought?? Would probably be cheaper too! ETA that I get really bad headaches with eye infections too - but better to be checked out...
