we had a chat with our priest and said that as long as the music we used was in keeping with the ceremony and not rock music we pretty much could incorporate what we wanted into to it.
so with the wedding only 3 weeks away our musician has been working on these songs for us but i just wanted to see what your opinions on it is. Good or bad and if you think the songs are too long for the parts of the ceremony we have put them with.
so this is how it will go.
Individual candle ceremony ( this will be an instrumental peace, its not on you tube so i can't find it.)
[b:14pqi47a]Lighting of Unity Candle[/b:14pqi47a]
[b:14pqi47a]Holy Holy (sung[/b:14pqi47a])
Sign of Peace( i don't know if we our church is doing this any more, preist is getting back to me on it)
[b:14pqi47a]Communion [/b:14pqi47a](choose 2 pieces)
[b:14pqi47a]Signing of Register[/b:14pqi47a] (choose 2 pieces)
musicians own instumental pieces
Can't listen to your choices cos I'm at work but have looked at titles! Our priest is fairly easy going as well and all our music is trad instrumental and not the usual hymns. But we have tried to remain respectful as possible, e.g. with nice easy airs rather than jigs and reels during the "holy" bits! E.g. liturgy, offertory etc. as opposed to lighting of candles, processional. The one area I would take care with is Communion. I have erred on the side of caution here with hymns as many priests are quite sensitive to this.
General rule is you can have what you want (within reason of course) for processional, recessional and signing of register as they are not actually during the Mass. HTH.
Were going to run them past the priest. Our songs for commuinion were both written as hyms so hopefuly they will suffice, as you said mrsjd2b i want to make sure they are respectful enough and to see if other people thought they were in keeping with the ceremony and the tone of the mass.
Of course myself and h2b think they are but it all a matter of opinion.
its a pity you couldn't hear them
just listening to these now. i absolutely love the recessional song!! hadn't really heard of the others, they are nice too, although i would run them by your priest first. if he is ok with them i would go with them. ceremony music should be personal to you and dh, i know that no one else will remember what the music was at our wedding apart from us (dh doesn't even remember a lot of the hymns!!).
my problem is h2b is obsessed with having these songs.
i would have used some normal hymns as I like alot of them but he didn't want them, he wanted the ceremony to very personal to us so and he feels these songs will add to it. I do as well but I don't want to rile up the priest.
I just hope the preist like thems
