Hi, am 10 weeks pregnant and have the mother of all abcesses on tooth/gum. Pain is horrendous. Am taking small doses of Penicillin and Paracetemol. Went to Dentist and they refused to do anything?? Has anyone ever got an extraction / local anesthetic while pregnant? Thanks.

I have had few fillings done, all under local anasthetic. The dentist told me they wouldn't do any x-rays while pregnant, but fillings etc are fine. TYou should get a second opinion, as it's not a good idea to leave an absess / cavity for another 30 weeks to fester...

I know when my sister was pregnant she has abcesses too and she was given a mild antibiotic to clear it up. Maybe ring your doctor and try a different dentist you can't be left suffering for too long. [img:5apv8jn3];40;121/st/20090410/e/Finish+Work/dt/5/k/06d8/event.png[/img:5apv8jn3]

An abscess does not require dental work per se. The mild antibiotic and paracetamol is adequate treatment for that. You could also use mouthwash like corsodyl to speed up the healing process, but that is as much as they can do for you.
