Hi All, I have found my dream dress but it has straps (I wanted my upper arms covered) I couldn't find a dress I liked with sleeves. So in bridal shop and they showed me balero's, capes etc but I hated them all. They all looked so added on. Does anyone know if you can add sleeves on and make them look like they were always on the dress??

Ask the shop to put you in touch with their alterations people to discuss, however it should be possible for a good dressmaker! Alternative is to take a pic of the dress to a dress designer and get them to make you a dress inspired by / similar to it (this is the route I chose, but my dress is very simple)

You can definitely do this! I a friend of mine had cap sleeves added to her strapless dress a few years ago. A seamstress she knew that specialised in wedding dresses did it. While another friend had a lace detachable top added to hers which she took off when it came time to dance! As far as I can remember, this was organised through the bridal shop. Sorry I don't have any specifics on where to go for this but as it's possible, I'd be contacting the bridal shop first to see what they would recommend. Good luck!

Hi all, I am in a similar situation. The dress I have found is strapless and I was hoping for something with a sleeve. The ideal thing would be to have a lace jacket/bolero made for over it but the dress I like is lace so I will need the lace to match. Does anyone know if you can order extra material from certain designers? The dress I have my eye on is by Essense of Australia. Not only that, dressmakers have quoted me €300-€500 to make it which I think is extortionate. I'm at a bit of a dead end with it. Would love to get some feedback or tips if anyone has been through this.

I wore a full sleeve lace bolero over my strapless lace, organza and tulle Essence of Australia dress, and the in house seamstress in the bridal shop altered it to fit so you could barely tell it was separate. After a lot of searching, and getting quotes of €85, €220 and €300 from other dressmakers, I was in the bridal shop one day with some swatches and they actually had a bolero that worked that they could sell me. I'd say if you ask in the bridal shop first, they should be able to advise and help. Best of luck, and if you need any more info PM me.

I'm hoping that this is possible as I would like this done to my dress - which I bought! I want 3/4 length or full length sleeves added to my dress.. It originally has small cap sleeves which are fine but I am self concious about my arms so want them covered! My dress is lace so it will probably be more difficult to match but I'd say that any dress is do-able with a good alterations person :) Have a look on Etsy for removabl capes that are lovely over dresses & look like they are all one dress! A few here: https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/2281650 ... _gallery_4 or https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/2487776 ... gallery_26 or https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/2489744 ... gallery_12 Hope this helps! :)

Thanks ladies, I ordered two but they didn't look right over the dress. I'm going to try and get the name of a dressmaker from the bridal shop and see if they can come up with something to attach to the dress
