I've booked an early scan for 16th dec, at ultrasound dimensions. Was really looking forward to it, but now my Mam has said oh you shouldn't get one before twelve weeks as pressing down on your tummy early etc. Is my mam crackers or does she have a valid point???

Sometimes they do internal scans at such an early date...

This will just be an ultrasound, cos its a clinic that specialises in ultrasounds, so no internal yet - phew!

you might not be able to get an abdomen ultrasound at that stage pet, I had one this week at 8 and half weeks and they had to end up doing an internal scan to see properly, I think its about 9 weeks onwards that they can do the normal ultrasounds... Either way I dont think there's any risk for babs, ive had recurrent miscarriages and am being scanned every 2 weeks, they wouldn't be doing them on me if there was any risk! I think in our mams generation there was none of this early scan business in fact most women 30 years ago didnt have scans unless something was wrong! Best of luck

Thanks CheerBear, gosh not sure would I fancy an internal cos its an ultrasound clinic, not the hospital. Wouldn't be too comfortable with that. Might ring them during the week to clarify - i know they said they have a special machine for early pregnancy that can see more than hospitals but never thought to check it an external. Ooops! :o0

Hey, there is no risks for doing an ultrasound early, however I would imagine that as you'll only be 7/8 weeks pregnant getting your scan done it will be an internal one. Don't be worrying they are fine, i've had a good few now, you're covered up and its just like a dildo type thing, very slightly uncomfortable but so worth it as you get so much of a better view of your baby, sizes, heartbeat everything. I got a belly ultrasound at 10 and a half weeks but I think its only around this time that they'll do a belly one. Now in saying that I got one done at 7 and a half weeks and i could see the baby on the belly but an internal just gives you a better idea that all is well. Good luck either way and don't be worrying if you do have to get it done, its grand chic.

Congrats jill on your pregnancy! :o)ll :o)ll Just to echo what Bam Bam said, its no big deal at all to get the internal scan. I had a few and they put some gel on the probe and it slips in fairly easy, just a tiny bit uncomfortable, just try not to tense up. Relax as much as you can and concentrate on looking at the screen! You will barely notice *) Best of luck jill, I hope all goes really well for you. :lvs

I had an early scan done at 7.5 weeks in ultrasound dimensions and it wasn't internal, got to see the sac and heartbeat and also hear it!! Best of luck!! :o)ll Eta-they do press down on your belly but I found this more uncomfortable cos I had a really full bladder lol!!
