I didnt get it on last pregnancy but I think Im going to get it this time - next week hopefully. I got a letter from my gp about getting it plus I was SO sick last week with the vomiting bug - I don't want to EVER experience that again and certainly not when pregnant when they can give you nothing for it! Had checkup with gp again this week and she mentioned it, she said it's been given as standard for pregnant women in the US for about 30 years. I actually thought it was a live vaccine but I just read the leaflet she gave me and it's not. You may experience mild headaches etc but this is not flu symptoms. Also as I have diabetes aswell Im at further risk plus I have to attend a clinic every 2 weeks so I will be exposed to alsorts! There, I just convinced myself!

why wouldn't you get it? don't confuse it with the swine flu vaccine that was rushed out a few years ago. This is the flu vaccine (that now incorporates swine flu too) and has been used for decades. It's never proven any harm to pregnant women or their babies. Flu is very very serious and while pregnant you have a weaker immune system and more open to catching it. If you decide not to get it that's everyones personal choice but make it on medical fact rather than chinese whispers.

I wont be getting it. Am just very wary of taking anything at all when pregnant and then they expect you to take a vaccine that i havent a clue what it contains. I dont think so. Didnt get it on last pregnancy but got Swine Flu vaccine on DD1 but the minute i got it i regretted it

I didn't get it when pregnant. My consultant didn't seem too keen on it tbh.

If you don't know what's in the vaccine, here is the leaflet being issued by the HSE which gives all the details: There is acres of info out there all urging pregnant women to get the vaccine. It is of course a personal decision but why would you not do it when it has been safely adminstered for years, the risks to you and your baby of not getting it are higher etc eg still birth and maternal death! I'm not a chemist and don't know what's exactly in the BCG vaccine for example but that didn't stop me getting my baby vaccinated as the risks of not getting it outweigh the risks of getting it. At some stage you just have to trust the medical profession. Just find it hard to understand why anyone would opt against a national health campaign, advice from the NHS in the UK, US government's Centre for Disease Control and Prevention etc: Mamabear

Im listening to a consultant who said he wouldnt recommend it.

Fair enough. Go on what your friend told you her consultant said - you don't even appear to have heard it first hand O:| I'll go with what my own consultant who specialises in high risk pregnancies advised me and also with a family member who is a consultant obstetrician who also concurs :wv

mamabear Im not trying to start an argument despite what you may think. My very very best friends consultant said that to her, he said if his wife was pregnant he wouldnt let her take it. Simple as that! Im meeting my consultant tomorrow and will discuss it with her, these forums are for getting opinions well thats what I thought. O:| O:|
