It's super - make sure you're staying in The Hodson Retreat though as this is the new section of the hotel we had fab views overlooking the lough - the food was delicious too and if you fancy going to Athlone for dinner one night, try Khin Kao (fab Chinese) or the Olive Tree/Olilve Garden not sure which name but the hotel will help you with that one. have a lovely time - you lucky duck

Hi im actually having my wedding reception in the hodson bay hotel. Its about 1.5 hours from dublin alright a good road all the way down what with the new motorway. Its 3 miles off the Athlone dual carriageway out the Roscommon Road. Yes the Retreat rooms are the new rooms and the are fab plus the food is fab. New Spa opened last year also gorgeous. The Olive Grove restaurant is the name of the nice restaurant in Athlone Town. Di Bella is a lovely Italian Retaurant there too.

thanks for the replies ladies - made a bit of a boo boo though thought the net said €130pr pn but its €130pps pn - think for the price per night it might be a waste just using it as a stopover hotel - as we will literally be arriving at 9.30ish pm sleeping getting up and leaving - might save it for a surprise weekend with hubby as it looks fab
