Are you being started with gel or breaking of waters? I was induced due to high BP but I was already about 2cm dilated so I didn't need the gel. They broke my waters and put me on the drip. Contractions for me felt like braxton hicks, not like period pain, which I was expecting. They started straight away really. I was induced at 8.30am and DS was born at 3.57pm so it wasn't that long for an induction.
Advice...just take it one step at a time. They normally check you every two hours, unless you request otherwise so just work in two hour slots, don't think about the entire labour (except the very end obviously!). Bring a drink and snack for DH so he's not having to go out if things are moving faster than expected. Don't worry about maternity pads or nappies for the baby in your labour bag, they will give them to you. We did a crossword at one point! Don't think I was very good at it though. Just take it one step at a time, focus on your breathing and bring your ipod so you can block everything else out. Try and get off the bed as much as possible. I was stuck to the bed on the monitor the whole time and it was a pain.
You will be fine. Best of luck with it.
