Maid on Honour??????? please help

My understanding is a maid of honour is the same as a chief brides maid.... it's a more old fashioned title and usually only when the chief bridesmaid is married

In the olden days, if your main bridesmaid wasnt married, she would be your maid of honour. If she was married she would have been your matron of honour. I think the term chief bridesmaid was introduced to overcome some of the bad feelings associated with the above terms!
