Hi there just wondering if anyone has any feedback on martin gear jewellers in mary st dublin. Ive heard he specialises in custom made rings and my e-ring is a little unusual so will definitely need a custom made ring. Ive tried so many rings on at this stage and find it hard to order a ring without seeing how it will look finished. Would love to hear some feedback. Thanks Jo x x

While I didnt get a custom made ring I did buy my wedding ring there. The Guy Martin himself is very nice and gave me some good advice about wedding ring for Dp he lifts alot for work and told me not to get 24 carat ring that Dp wanted as it was too soft. I had seen his stand at the wedding fair in the city west and they were having 20% off most rings except of course the one I wanted. Anyways when I went into his shop he gave me a good discount as I get a discount in fields so asked could he do better. My ring would have cost me 660 in Fields and I got it off him with the date of the wedding engraved for 480! Haggle with him.. OR alternatively tell him what you want and how much you have to spend and he will come up with something for you. Everytime I pass his window I look at one ring in particular that cost the same price as my engagement ring but it is much bigger...I wish I had of went there instead of a fore mentioned jewellers!

We got our wedding rings from Martin and couldn't be happier. Martin made mine for me from scratch as he didn't have the style I liked in white gold, only in yellow. So he copied a yellow gold one for me and made it in white gold with five little diamonds. He also recommended a palladium ring for my husband which is more hard wearing. So we got both rings for around €700 off him. We had looked at two rings in another jeweller and the cheapest we could get them was for €1,000 so saved a good bit going with Martin. He's a very nice man, very professional and if you need a custom ring he's deffo the guy for you as he's a real jeweller like, he has all the equipment there in his shop so he should certainly be able to help.

Martin is great, I love the fact that he is a proper jeweller not just a glamourous shop front.

Quotes we've received so far seem to be in the region of €1100 for my ring as it needs a row of diamonds to compliment by E-ring and €650 for OH but Martin has quoted €750 for my ring and €450 for OH - he wants brushed Palladium. I worry when someone can come out so much cheaper and that's why I'm looking for feedback. Had hoped to go back to same place I got my E-ring to have wedding ring made to match but quote is €1100 and with OH now part time we just cant afford it if we can get same at better price elsewhere. Annoying thing is we got great value on my E-ring and same place claims to be up to 30% cheaper than high street jewellers or well established jewellers but so far the latter seem to be cheaper. It's so hard because my ring is a little unusual so I'm worried about how well another jeweller can match a wedding band up :( Decisions decisions O:|

Hmmmmmmm that's a right pain! Can you get a little loan out to cover the cost of the matching wedding band? I'd be worried that if you have an unusual e-ring and get an almost matched wedding band it'll annoy you every time you look at them. Although, if Martin Gear is a good jeweller surely he can make you something that will look right and compliment your e-ring? Btw Celtclan make jewellery and they posted a thing up the other week saying that they will make a silver ring up for you free of charge to make sure it's what you want and fits right before they make the actual ring in gold or platinum. You could try that if you're worried bout it matching up! Good luck with it what ever you decide to do :)

Got both our wedding rings from Martin. I was getting quotes from all other jewellers for my ring between 800-1000 to make the ring but Martin happened to have the exact ring in his window for just under 500. I'm delighted with it.

We had a specific design in mind and when we went to the shop we found the setting to die for but I adored a diamond in another ring... :-8 (not fussy I swear!) Martin couldn't have been more accommodating, he phoned around to another jewelers to get the setting I liked and then drove accross town on his bike (in the rain!) to get it! He then popped the diamond out of the other ring and placed it into the newly acquired setting so I could get an idea of how it would look! This before we'd even committed to buying anything. We'll definitely be going back to him to buy our wedding rings, he was just so lovely and patient and very open to suggestion. He had us trawling through other diamonds and we even went outside to get an idea of their clairity in sunshine as well as on his desk! It was such a fun experience. Jesus, I've rattled on! tl;dr : Martin Gear is fantastic!
