Girls, can anyone suggest something I could take for the pain? I am on antibiotics since yesterday only so I know Ill have to wait a day or two for those to kick in but I have a desperate pain in my bladder, like a constant full bladder feeling. I know I am supposed to drink lots of fluids to flush the infection out as well but I am finding it very hard to get them into me when it's so painful. Would taking some blue Panadol do any good? I know they say they're safe during pregnancy
but it does work, hope this helps.
Hi kindanervous, you poor thing I OFTEN suffer from UTI's they are awful but I find Cranberry juice its great I drink it by the litres even though I hate it
kindanervous, water and cranberry juice is the only thing I can tell you about. The more fluid you drink the easier it gets.
What Cranberry juice would you recommend drinking? I dont know if I should drink just the normal stuff like Squeeze or whatever coz wouldnt that have loads of sugar in it.
Panadol you can definitely take. They will do no harm at all, in fact until antibiotics work they will ensure your temperature stays nice and normal and they will help a little with the pain.
As you say drink a good bit, but space it out evenly as much as you can over the day, so you are not overly filling your bladder in one hour.
I second the cranberry juice, and start taking the cranberry capsules on a regular basis. Also get acidophilus in chemist - builds up your good bacteria, especially when on antibiotics, stop thrush developing (oh the joys of been a woman
Thanks girls. Just sent one of the girls in work off in search of a bottle of Cranberry juice for me!
Also gonna buy some natural live yougurt later as my Mom said that's good to take when on antibiotics for preventing thrush.
Any of the brands are grand, but that why the capsules better as no sugar in them. I had to see a specialist before I got pregnant due to regular UTI's and he told me that capsules are best, followed by juice but despite sugar in normal juice to AVOID the light cranberry juices. Cannot remember why - think the false sweetener was worse than the sugar.
Natural yoghurt is great too, your mam is right, helps you keep good bacteria in you to skip thrush.

Hi girls, feeling a bit better this morning thank God. I'm trying to drink plenty of water & have a natural probiotic yogurt for later. It's day 3 of the antibiotics so hopefully now the infection is starting to ease.

Hi Kindanervous.... You poor thing, only read your second post there now... Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today though. Another thing which is meant to help is drinking barley water... Not actually sure why but my doctor recommended it to me over the cranberry juice.. She told me that cranberry juice can help a UTI alright but because it acts by acidifying the bladder, it alters the pH of the rest of your body too, and can make you more prone to thrush if you drink to much.
Another thing that helps is uva-ursi that you can get in the health shop.... I have only taken this when not pregnant though, so I'm not sure if you can take it when pregnant. But it might be worth checking out!
