Yes and No. Yes for people having a very traditional wedding and are afraid to upset Mammy or great-aunt Peg by, woe-behold, not having the priest at the top table (straight to hell for you for even thinking such a thing!) And No for people who want to be different/dont want a stranger at top table/can decide for themselves what to do. I dont see why people think this is such a big deal. As said on another similar topic - they are just doing a job at the end of the day, registrars dont even get an invite, let alone sit at the top table.

Yes according to my mother, who was shocked at the idea I might put him at table 1.
