Basically, my family will offer OH and I any site on their land to build a new house. There is a council road to access my parents house (road off a busy main road) but it is come to a dead-end at their yard (no other houses along the road as they own all the land so basically, it is a private road. OH and I want privacy and our own space so we are not willing to extend this road to build in an adjacent field (you would have to drive past their kitchen window to get back down onto main road) so we are hoping to choose a site some fields over the road from the parents house. My query is, do you think we will get planning permission to make a new entrance road off a busy main road or how do we find out so? If this cannot take place, a self build is a non-runner. Would love to hear from anyone in the know/who had advice etc.. thanks ;)

Is there a local planning advisor you can ask? or a Land Surveying & Planning specialist in the area that you could check with?
