tipping the hotel?

Just wondering is this necessary. Not really sure what to do, don't have ahuge amount of spare cash but don't want to seem rude either.

We tipped the function staff that were on duty. We gave €200 to the manager on duty. It was a local hotel though & we knew alot of the staff. They were very facilitating & allowed non residents bar to to use the residents bar. If I didn't know the staff I wouldn't have tipped, they just made it great. Don't feel obliged, it's not expected. ETA: There was a service fee include in our bill.

We left €300 for the staff tip pool.
