When can the GP check for a heartbeat?

Hi there, just wondering at what stage u can hear the heartbeat? My scan isn't until 16 weeks so would like to be checked beforehand!

The doc first got a heartbeat wiht my baby in week 18 but at that stage it can still be too faint to hear in some people-however in some people it can be heard way earlier-as far as I know most won't try until after 16 weeks.

My doc tried at 12 and 13 weeks but couldnt pick it up. I heard it at my first scan at 14 weeks.

My GP said I should be able to hear it at my next appointment which is the 12-13 week mark.
