When can they tell you the sex of your baby??

Hi girls, I have my scan in The Coombe in 3 weeks and was hoping to find out the sex of my baby then. Ill be 16 weeks then. When can they tell the sex?? Is 16 weeks to soon?

Is your scan at the Coombe in 3 weeks your dating scan? Usually they can tell from around 18 weeks; most people that want to know the sex would find out at the 20 week scan - (big scan) but that may be because they wouldn't have had a scan in between the original dating one and the big one. 16 weeks this time around, earlier than last time. The consultant did a mini-scan and told us what we were having, although given it was only a mini scan it was far from definite. It was confirmed on my big scan at 22 weeks.
