Weddings at Gretna Green

We had the most magical wedding day at Gretna Hall Hotel. From booking our wedding, to Lesley in the wedding team answering all our questions in advance, Jill our wedding host helping us and all our guests on our wedding day, Bill our photographer, Laura from the events company who beautifully decorated the Johnstone function room and all the staff who provided excellent service throughout our stay. The Courtyard marriage room was beautiful, so romantic and the bridal suite was amazing. Gretna Hall Hotel you created the most magical, perfect, memorable wedding day that we will treasure forever. We look forward to returning each year for our anniversary. Gretna Hall will now always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you to everyone.

We had the most amazing time, our wedding was perfect along with everything else,, room was amazing, food was so delicious and what amazing staff. We couldn’t of dreamt for better, it was outstanding 🥂👍😊

Everything from my first call to book our wedding to checking out the day after the wedding and everything in between was perfect. The florist Angela was amazing flowers were so fresh and beautiful, the bagpiper Craig was brilliant the lady who done the handfasting and Keith the minister were simply wonderful! Our day could not have been better. We stayed in the Smiths hotel which was lovely spotlessly clean and very comfortable rooms, food was amazing! We will come back for our anniversary.

Esme and I had a wonderful wedding day, getting married at the Coach House at Gretna Hall Hotel. We had an intimate wedding with close family in attendance, a piper and handfasting ceremony and photographer. It was an excellent experience and the team could not have been more helpful both in the lead up to the day itself and on the day so we both felt relaxed and could enjoy the moment fully. The wedding meal was exceptional and we loved all the personal touches. Getting married in Gretna is an ideal option for couples who want a hassle free experience and want to focus on enjoying the day.

Our whole experience from going down to look around & booking our wedding & arriving the day before & the actual whole wedding experience was all absolutely fabulous. We would both like to thank all who helped us & made the whole experience fabulous & so easy. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of arranging their wedding to definitely book the Gretna hall hotel 100%. Thank you to everyone.

The whole experience was perfect. Amber was available when we got there & talked us through what was happening the following day & I met with her on the morning of the wedding to go through the last minute details.

Lynne walked the guests to the Coach House & then came back for myself & my brother-in-law.

When we got back to Gretna Hall we had a drink in the bar but there was nowhere to sit in the lounge but we asked if we could go through to the reception room & have the meal a bit earlier - this was accommodated & made the whole experience stress free.

Thank you to Amber for all her help, being so bubbly & friendly & all the other staff who made our day.

If we had any criticism it would be that the lounge area isn't big enough to accommodate everyone, especially if you have a larger wedding party.

We married just the two of us and wanted it special but with very little fuss, we got exactly that, it was so lovely and special. We didn't want any extras but felt that nothing would have been too much trouble for the team. Lots of opportunities to express concerns or requests. Would definitely recommend Gretna Green and everyone was so lovely and helpful without being intrusive.

Everything from booking our wedding, to the guidance before we married, to the day before meeting the wedding team, to getting married - everything was superb! Our ceremony was beautiful and the handfasting added to it massively. We stayed at the Smiths and married at the Original Blacksmiths.

Everything was taken care off! I just had to buy a dress, pick a song to walk in to (as I chose not to have the piper) and then turn up

Relaxed and personal - everyone knew exactly what needed to happen and when. We felt very taken care of.

We married here with 12 of our close family and friends, we married at the blacksmiths shop then stayed two nights at the smiths hotel with meals in the private dining alcoves. The whole experience from start to finish was really positive, the staff really know their jobs and do make your day special. We took advantage of an offer to get married in January and felt the pricing was excellent and really good value for money, we even got lucky and got some gorgeous winter sunshine on our day! Thank you to all involved in our wedding, it really was all we wanted and more. 🩷

We married in the Smiths hotel, on the balcony in the penthouse suite! It was truly amazing especially as it was so intimate just myself and my husband. The staff were so very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, Jill our planner went over everything and made our day so special

We really enjoyed our wedding and everyone was very friendly and made our day special. We loved our room and the blacksmiths forge was really special. The only thing I would have liked was perhaps a bottle of wine with our wedding meal or at least a glass of something and I would have preferred a light meal the night before instead of afternoon tea. The afternoon tea and cocktail was lovely but we had it quite late and would have liked the choice of having a proper cooked meal instead of cakes and sandwiches.

We attended a wedding at the Gretna Green Hall Hotel on the 22nd of December 2025, and it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The welcome and introduction were warm and professional, setting a perfect tone for the day. Everything ran to time with impressive organisation — every detail felt seamless.

The facilities were excellent, and the service throughout was brilliant. Staff were attentive and friendly, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for everyone. It was a truly memorable occasion in a beautiful setting — we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Highly recommended for anyone considering a wedding or special event at Gretna Green!

Eloped to Gretna staying at Gretna Hall Hotel. On arrival was asked if we would like to see the wedding planner but had no need to, however would have been moved if she had tried to touch base with us at some point before our ceremony. Our suite was lovely but when we walked in it was like a sauna, the heating was set at 28 degress obvs we turned it down. I set it to 16 degrees and it was still too hot, needed the windows open and this was near the end of December. Breakfast isn’t great, buffet style, I assumed for the cost paid it would be freshly cooked so quite disappointed. Dinner in restaurant was ok but nothing special which is a shame, overall I think there could be improvements. Our actual wedding was amazing

We had the most amazing day! Everyone at Gretna were absolutely fantastic. Jill made me feel at ease as I wasn't sure what I needed to do on the day of the wedding. The Dj provided was fantastic and the staff at our reception were also amazing. I would highly recommend Gretna. I had no stress and was made to feel calm and relaxed. The original marriage room was so lovely, 37 of us squeezed in there and I felt amazing when I walked in to see all of our family standing there.

The process from booking to the actual day was smooth and stress free. The telephony staff were very knowledgeable and accommodating, the communication leading up to the wedding was very good and the venue and everyone involved on the actual day was amazing, from the wedding planner, minister, photographer to all the hotel staff. The signature suite where we stayed was amazing. The day was perfect and I wouldn’t have wanted it anywhere else.

Myself and my husband stayed in the penthouse suite where we also married. We spent 2 nights in the smiths hotel and could not name a single fault. Everyone was so lovely and went above and beyond to make our stay special. The hotel itself was beautiful, with the room just being the cherry on top. We had a wonderful couple of days and no regrets.

All in all a great service. Anything we needed they were there to assist and really professional and friendly throughout.

We went just the two of us with our young kids. We stayed at the bensmoor cottages and got married at the coach house. I just want to do it all over
It was just enough fuss for us both and even though there was other weddings that day were made to feel like it was special by everyone that was involved. At the coach house was told what to do enough that it took the awkwardness out of it for me. I just loved it all I can't fault it
We looked at a couple of places to elope but wanted ease and to know what to expect. Going to visit Gretna sold it for me. Being in the rooms and actually seeing Gretna was fantastic and helped us decide what we wanted for our wedding day

Honestly, the whole staff at smith’s and blacksmiths couldn’t do enough for us. We had the most incredible weekend filled with love and happiness - special shout out to Jill our coordinator who made the whole thing run like clockwork!
Cannot recommend Smiths enough - my guests are still talking about the sticky toffee pudding and the parsnips served with dinner! 😅

We arrived the day before our wedding at Smith’s Hotel. Having been contacted by our wedding host, Phoebe and also Keeley from our ceremony venue at The Famous Blacksmith’s Shop, as we were travelling down from East Kilbride. Our 2 night stay and elopement wedding package was truly personal, romantic and we were treated with such warmth by the hotel staff, the appointed photographer, the museum staff, our wonderful registrar and Danielle our 2nd witness. Our wedding meal in the hotel was superb, with our table dressed perfectly for after our ceremony! The whole experience was gold star quality and beyond everything we had had wished for!!! Thank you Gretna Green for giving us the opportunity to be part of this unique history!

Gretna arranged everything in my package, all the external vendors got in contact with me, if I didn’t have details. The service ran perfectly from start to finish.

We had the most truly amazing day, everything went the way we planned apart from the weather but that just added to the special day. No ask was to big or too small and I can't thank every member of staff at Gretna hall enough.

We arrived to a very warm welcome and that continued throughout our stay. They were professional, and very attentive to our needs (Amber especially). Everything spot on from receptionist, bar and restaurant staff. Couldn’t fault anything.

Our friends got married in the Coach House in January 2024. At the time we hadn't even thought about getting married even though at the time we had been together for 39 years.
After losing my father in July 2024 we started to think about us and decided to get married and thought that this would be the perfect place for us too.
We booked the Coach House for the ceremony and the Drawing Room in Gretna Hall for our reception. We also stayed in the Wakefield Turner room for 3 nights. It's a beautiful room.
Even though it's so far away from Yorkshire the staff at Gretna made everything so easy for us from start to finish. They didn't mind if we wanted to change things or add things, they were all so accommodating.
Special thanks go to Amber Saxton, this lovely lady couldn't have done anymore for us. We thought my makeup artist wasn't going to make it but she went above and beyond, giving me numbers, ringing round and even asking another makeup artist that was in the building at the time.
Our day flowed perfectly and we had no stress regarding timings of anything as Gretna do it all that for you.
I can truly say I throughly enjoyed the whole day from start to finish thanks to Amber and her team
If your thinking about a Gretna Wedding I would definitely recommend it.

We got married on the 3rd and booked the platinum package.

This gave us the hotel (choice of Gretna hall or smiths, we picked Gretna hall) two nights in a bridal suite with drinks and a welcome hamper, afternoon tea with a cocktail on arrival and a gold menu wedding dinner as well as breakfasts. A photographer and the venue (we picked the original blacksmith room) as well as organising registry (extra fees to pay for that but they will organise them to book arrive etc) free entry to the museum.

Reception was very friendly and welcoming!

The building is beautiful with a lot of character and history, I love that a lot of the artwork was related to the history. We had the Sheridan and Grant room which has a secret nook, it was very cool. We don't drink alcohol so they gave us bottles of appletisers instead to accommodate. The hamper was missing but once I explained to the receptionist she was right on it to rectify! We got a Halsey bear and two champagne flutes with the wedding anvil etched onto it. The bed was decorated with petals and towel swans.

The afternoon tea was very impressive, there was so much we needed to take the leftovers for snacking later! The cocktails and tea washed it down just nice!

The breakfast was delicious, buffet style and spoiled for choice.

Dinner was the best dinner I've had. Our parents said the same. We had to tell the staff to compliment the chef it was that good.

Our parents said their double rooms were immaculate and lovely. (Just to clarify our package doesn't cover guests, we paid for the rooms and add ons to the afternoon tea/dinner)

The wedding planner (not sure if that's the right term?) was great she helped me with an umbrella on arrival to the blacksmith shop as it started to rain and was very sweet fluffing my dress out!

I've also had calls a couple of days before checking I was happy with everything and if I had questions and then a call on the day of arriving giving us an update on a crash and traffic.

Honestly would not have our wedding any other way. This was perfect. Intimate and no stress because they took care of everything, we just had to turn up. Everyone has been so helpful welcoming and efficient!

Would love to come back here to celebrate our first anniversary!

P.s. would recommend paying extra for a piper, it really completed the day and he was fab!

What a wonderful experience just the two of us - we opted for the platinum package and it was all amazing - especially having the horse and carriage (Tartan Carriages) Zoe and Simon -highly recommend, Craig Irvine Piper + he sorted out a drummer - so romantic.

Absolutely thrilled with the way our day went, it was so smooth and made us both relaxed so we could enjoy it.

The only thing I could think to add to the day was that a hook for my dress in the rose suite would be helpful but that is all.

From the moment we made our first enquiries to leaving the day after, everyone we spoke with, by phone, email or in person was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The organisation that must have gone on in the background is astounding, but we had to do none of it. We basically picked our package and our guests; then waited for the date to come round.

All staff at the hotel were friendly and happy, as were all the guests. It was so delightful to be in a beautiful setting where everyone is focused on happiness and enjoyment.

We couldn’t fault anything g about getting g married at Gretna Green, from the very beginning g when they organised our special day, they kept in contact with us,from organising the rooms for us and our guests, to booking our evening meal on the night of our wedding, the registrar who married us was fabulous they make it so simple but wonderful, I would definitely recommend to anyone to choose getting married here, thank you so much you made us so happy and a day we will cherish for ever,

The main meal was a little off putting the chicken was dry and potatoes hard but thats the only little gripe from what was an amazing day.

We got married on the 25th August and thankfully the weather was lovely. The ceremony was really nice, just my partner and I, our kids and our dog. We were treated very well and I would recommend the experience to all those thinking of doing this.

From first initial contact until the day we left everything was just perfect. The service we had from all members of staff was just phenomenal.
The food, flowers, ceremony was just amazing. Everyone had a fantastic time.
Our bridal suite was signature suite 4 and was just lovely. We had a nice bottle of champagne on ice as well.
Couldn't have asked for a better experience for our wedding. My husband and I are eternally grateful xx

We had a fantastic weekend. Stress free and so well organised . Just two of us with minimal fuss. Every aspect of the organisation was so easy . Just an original and brilliant way to tie the knot. Many thanks to the registrar, witnesses and a great photographer too. Perfect ! The Gretna Hall is a lovely hotel with a great menu and excellent staff all round . Lovely grounds to relax for a drink too !!

Was so excited & looking forward to our wedding on 12 th August at Gretna, staying for 2 nights in one of the dog friendly cottages which were advertised as luxury with lovely furniture!
What a huge disappointment, scruffy stained carpet, wallpaper hanging off the wall, furniture that was falling apart, management agreed with us but they were full and couldn’t move us but we were told that we just may be able to move the next morning, however no one bothered to come and see us and we were getting married that day, we did have a nice meal in the hotel after our marriage service, we paid £1365 for the package and of course I complained again when we checked out and I was told they would carry out a full investigation into our complaint and that they would contact me the following week, they did not make contact so I emailed them which resulted in them offering us a refund of £50!!! I am insulted by this gesture and I have told them so, I am taking this further because I feel so strongly about it, I left a beautiful home to go to a horrible, uninviting dirty cottage which I could not move from because they said they were full, our beautiful wedding day that we were so looking forward to was absolutely horrible and we couldn’t wait to get out of the place and to top the whole thing off we still havnt received our marriage certificate!

We had an amazing wedding at Gretna Green. It was everything we wanted it to be. A delightful venue. Staff incredibly helpful and accommodating. Food very good. Cleanliness exceptional. I couldn't fault a single moment.

Smiths hotel was lovely, wedding co ordinator was lovely, spoilt at smiths salon was very lovely and welcoming. Amazing few days from start to finish. Photographer was amazing.

Staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accomodating. Nothing was too much trouble and always met with a smile.

Only 3 small issues - 1. Was the whole wedding cake cut up to offer with evening bacon butties etc. People said they never had any?
2. I handed over the menu /table plan and the tables also had the menus on the place cards also. These weren't checked when staff were passing the meals to the tables and somehow, some staff still had extra chicken and haggis walking around and one person had to wait 15 mins to get her veggie option, which wasn't the expected Wellington as you had run out so she had a pasta dish (not very exciting), in her words.
3. We were under the impression that the bar stays open to residents after the function but the bloke wasn't very accommodating and called last orders. Not sure what time.

The venue was gorgeous. We were so looked after the whole weekend. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for us.

I was very impressed throughout my stay at Gretna Green. The staff were very attentive and did their best to make us and our guests happy. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and the hotel itself was beautiful. We had a very pleasant stay and a lovely wedding celebration.

We honestly had the most amazing time during our stay! We stayed at Gretna Hall Hotel and our suite was honestly beautiful!! The staff were so friendly and helpful and honestly our wedding day was perfect!!! Thank you so much and we loved it so much we want to come back for our anniversary!!
